Toyota is not only busy in revamping its existing vehicle range but the Japanese carmaker is also keen on launching a few new models that will create enough buzz in the industry, one of them is 2018 Toyota FT-4X.
This vehicle is an interesting concept that was shown at the New York Auto Show. Aimed at the millennial generations who love outdoor adventures but need to stay mostly indoors and love tech features at every step of life. It is a funky looking compact crossover that has a curious blend of retro and modern styling.
2018 Toyota FT-4X – Comes with the new TNGA Architecture
Toyota has the experience of dealing with off-road-capable pickups as well as SUVs in the past. The discontinuation of the much loved FJ Cruiser in 2013 was regretted by many fans. With Ford planning to re-launch Bronco and Jeep Wrangler continuing its off-road mastery- Toyota needs a weapon to bounce back. The FT-4X concept could possibly be Toyota’s attempt at recreating the aura of the FJ Cruiser in a modern avatar! Created at the company’s Newport Beach facility, the FT-4X is set on the TNGA architecture- on which the C-HR compact crossover is also made. Step inside the cabin of the 2018 Toyota FT-4X and you will understand how Toyota designed it focusing on the millennial generation. There are removable water bottles, the ceiling has a removable flashlight, and the car’s lower dashboard has a removable boombox. The 2 hinge rear doors hold a warmer and refrigerator. The rear cargo zone has deep storage compartment hidden underneath. You get USB outlets in armrests and power outlets at the back side. A wet zone is there to keep items like swimsuits or raincoats. The hatch at the back can be opened both vertically and horizontally- which is a handy feature.
Just like the cabin, the technology department of the FT-4X concept is unique. A GoPro Hero5 camera has been put on the rearview mirror to shoot footages. There is no embedded navigation system but you will have to use your Smartphone GPS with a docking port.
2018 Toyota FT-4X – Powertrain Rumors
Toyota has been tight-lipped so far about the exact powertrain to be used in their production version of 2018 Toyota FT-4X. However, it may get a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine- the same which is used in the C-HR. You cannot rule out the company using a hybrid powertrain as well. The engine should have an AWD setup. Toyota is yet to declare lunch date of the 2018 Toyota FT-4X and same can be said about its final pricing. The FT-4X by Toyota is a bold attempt by the Japanese carmaker to cater to unique needs of the millennial generation.
