2019 Ford Edge Release date, Refresh

The Ford Motor Company prepares a significant update of the familiar mid-size crossover, which will come next year as 2019 Ford Edge. This crossover is present for a full decade and we have already seen one complete redesign.

While the original version came in 2017, the current generation is present since 2014. So, it is expected that will last at least until 2021. In order to remain fresh and competitive on the market, it will receive various updates. This will be a so-called mid-cycle refresh, which will bring changes in styling, but also under the hood. We are about to see a more attractive appearance, but also a new transmission.

Inside, we don’t expect bigger changes, although the company could introduce some new standard features, including some of the new technologies. The updated 2019 Edge will most likely hit the market in the second half of next year.

2019 Ford Edge changes

Last time when we saw modifications on this model, it was a complete overhaul. This time, it will be a mid-cycle refresh. So, the 2019 Ford Edge will keep pretty much the same base characteristics. It will continue to ride on a familiar CD4 platform, sharing most of the characteristics with Lincoln MKX.

On the other side, we are about to see changes in styling, as well in terms of mechanics. In terms of styling, expect those usual mid-cycle modifications, especially at the front. On the other side, we will see one big change under the hood. While the engine lineup will remain the same, a new 9-speed automatic will replace the old 6-speed gearbox. This should provide a better quality of ride, as well as better fuel economy.

2019 Ford Edge exterior and interior design changes

As we already mentioned, 2019 Ford Edge will receive those usual changes for mid-cycle refreshes. The test model has been spotted on the street already. However, it still wears a complete camouflage, so it is hard to say something more precise. For now, we know that the new model will get a new pair of headlights as we as new bumpers. There will be several other new parts and all of them will give 2019 Ford Edge a sharper look, compared to the current version. However, it is clear that there will not be some more significant changes on the body, so the base shape will remain pretty much the same.

When it comes to the interior design, we could also see some novelties, but none of them will be more important. The cabin design will remain the same although we could see some new technologies in the offer.

When it comes to powertrain options, things will remain the same. The 2019 Ford Edge will continue with same EcoBoost units, as well as one older Duratec V6 engine.

There is a 2.0-liter unit with 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. The 3.5-liter Duratec V6 is good for about 280 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. The most powerful version of this crossover features a 2.7-liter V6, which is good for about 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.

As we already mentioned, this update will bring a transmission change, where the new 9-speed automatic will replace a 6-speed gearbox.

For the European market, this crossover comes in a diesel version too. There is 2.0-liter Duratorq engine that comes in two output configurations, with 180 and 210 horsepower.

2019 Ford Edge release date and price

The new version is currently in testing phase and we expect that the company will reveal it somewhere in early 2018, probably in Detroit. On the other side, sales will probably start in the second half of year. The 2019 Ford Edge probably won’t feature bigger changes in price, so expect it to go in a range between 30.000 and 42.000 dollars. Competition in this segment is pretty tough. There are models like Mazda CX-9, Honda Pilot, Jeep Grand Cherokee and many others.
