Despite we saw big updates last year it looks like the famous crossover is going to receive other novelties, already as 2019 Ford Escape. This crossover is known mainly in North America and it is considered as one of the most competitive models in class, along with Asian competitors.
The original version of this SUV came in 2000 and we have seen three generations so far. The current model is present since 2013 and it is quite different compared to earlier models. It actually comes from Germany and it is basically the same car as Kuga. So far, we have seen one major update last year.
This refresh has brought many novelties, but it looks like the company prepares another update for the next year. This time, it is about the new powertrain, electrified. The new version will come with a hybrid powertrain, but also with some unique visual details.
2019 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid
The biggest novelty for the next year will be a new plug-in hybrid version. The company is preparing a new powertrain for this famous crossover. Besides conventional gasoline units, 2019 Ford Escape will also come with a powertrain that combines a gasoline engine and electric motor. The exact details are still unknown, but our reliable source claims a plug-in hybrid version. The new model will also feature an all-electric mode and we expect some competitive range. Basically, we could expect similar powertrain as in C-Max energy.
2019 Ford Escape engines
Besides new hybrid powertrain, rest of engine lineup should remain the same. There are some Ford’s familiar units. For the North American market, this crossover comes with gasoline units only.
The base model features a 2.5-liter engine with a max power of 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque.
A few years ago, we also saw a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost unit, which is good for about 180 horses.
Finally, there is a top-range 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, which delivers a huge amount both of power and torque. It is good for about 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. All engines come with either automatic or manual transmission.
2019 Ford Escape changes
When it comes to the base design characteristics, the 2019 Ford Escape will remain pretty much the same. This crossover received some nice updates and we are pretty sure that bigger changes won’t come before complete overhaul, which will happen probably in three years. However, there are some unique characteristics that will be offered for the hybrid version exclusively. First of all, we will see some unique visual details. This version will come with a little bit different front end, which will include few modifications, compared to gasoline models.
Also, we will see few tweaks inside, where the 2019 Ford Escape hybrid version will feature a little bit different instrument panel, adapted to its hybrid character. When it come s to equipment, we don’t expect bigger changes.
2019 Ford Escape trim levels
When it comes to equipment, we don’t expect bigger changes for the 2019 Ford Escape. The base S model will feature things like 4.2-inch central display, a rearview camera, smartphone integration, Bluetooth, 6-speaker audio system etc.
A mid-range SE trim will add things like LED daytime running lights, roof rails, rear parking sensors, a 110-volt household-style power outlet, the upgraded Sync 3 technology interface with an 8-inch touchscreen, a nine-speaker sound system etc.
Finally, there is a Titanium trim. This version also includes things like keyless entry and ignition, ambient interior lighting, driver-seat memory settings, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a 10-speaker Sony audio system with HD radio. Also, there are many optional features for each trim.
When it comes to new hybrid version, it will surely be well-equipped. Compared to these conventional trim levels, it will probably stand somewhere between SE and Titanium trim.
2019 Ford Escape release date
While the conventional versions will probably come in usual time, late in the year, the new 2019 Ford Escape with hybrid powertrain will probably come earlier, somewhere in the middle 2018.
