Jaguar is bringing the development of the new electric crossover slowly to the end. The new model is about to come next year as 2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV. The development of this crossover started a few years ago. This is an all-electric crossover, which could be considered as Jaguar’s response to latest trends in the car industry. New electric cars are constantly arriving, so we are now seeing final one from the famous British luxury carmaker.
Although this will be the first all-electric model from Jaguar, this company already has a big experience in this area. The company competes successfully in the Formula E competition. Now they are going to use all technology achievements in a production car. The new model is already in a late stage of development. We saw it on the road for several times. It should hit the market somewhere in the second half of year.
2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV redesign
The 2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV will be a completely new model from the company. Although it features a similar shape to the F-Pace, the company claims it comes with a completely new platform. Some reports even suggest that the new electric crossover will be produced in the different assembly. Most likely, production will take place in Austria. Compared to the F-Pace, a new electric crossover will come with a little bit different dimensions. It will feature a longer wheelbase. Also, it will be wider. However, it is still questionable will it feature more space, due to large battery package.
According to some reports, the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV will come with a new platform that features a so-called skateboard design. This means it will come with a flat battery pack that sits on the floor and powers all both front and rear electric motor.
2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV styling
The testing model is already present on the road for some time, so we can see some of the styling cues. We can easily notice that the base shape is close to the F-Pace. However, it looks like the new electric crossover will be a quite lower. This is what we expected since it needs some additional space for the battery on the floor. There are also several unique details, usual for electric cars. Since the electric car doesn’t need aid, you will not find air-intakes on the bumper of this crossover. It also comes with a little bit different grille design. Of course, there are many other unique details to come. However, we can’t see them at the moment, due to mule’s camouflage. 2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV powertrain
As we already mentioned, the new 2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV with a new skateboard platform. It will feature a flat battery that will power two electric motors. In this case, we will see a pair of electric motors with a total output of 400 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Each motor will be good for 200 horses and 258 pound-feet of torque. One is for the front, other for the rear axle. This huge amount of power will provide excellent acceleration. Some reports suggest 0-60 time in less than four seconds. Latest reports suggest that the new crossover will come in the second half of the next year. So, it will definitely come as 2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV. We still don’t have information about price. However, you can read several reports on the internet suggesting starting price under 100.000 dollars.
