The famous Bavarian carmaker has finally decided to offer a full-size crossover and now they are going even further with the new 2021 BMW X8. After many years of waiting, which manufacturer will finally compete in one of the most exclusive segments in the car industry. We will see a new X7 model first. This will be a 7 Series-based crossover that will ride on the extended version of the company’s highly modular CLAR platform.
On the other side, new 2021 X8 will be closely related to the new X7. Moreover, we are about to see a familiar relationship, just like it is case X1 and X2, or X5 and X6 models. So, the new model will feature those coupe-like lines, but this time in a much bigger package. Also, we are about to see several other exclusive features, such as V12 engine etc.
2021 BMW X8 exterior design
As we already mentioned, the 2021 BMW X8 will be based on the upcoming X7 crossover. This basically means that this crossover will also share most of its characteristics with the famous 7 Series sedan. The new crossover will ride on a familiar CLAR platform. This time, we will see an extended wheelbase, compared to X5 and X6 model, which also use this architecture. Just like with the X7, expect a massive use of light materials. After all, performances always come first, when it is about Bavarian carmaker.
In terms of styling, the 2021 BMW X8 will feature a similar styling as the upcoming odd-numbered relative. Expect the same look at the front, but more elegant sweeping, coupe roof at the rear end. This will also affect the interior, so expect some modification there too. Basically, the new model should be a more luxurious but less practical.
2021 BMW X8 interior
The interior design of the 2021 BMW X8 will come with a familiar styling. Expect a similar dashboard layout as in the new 7 Series. Compared to the X7, it will be different in some ways. Despite same dash, it will come with just two, instead of three rows of seats. Because of a coupe-like shape, this model definitely will not feature enough space for third row. So, it will be less versatile, but more luxurious. Base models will come with two rows and five seats, but we also expect to see more exclusive versions with 2+2 seating configurations.
2021 BMW X8 engines
The 2021 BMW X8 will most likely feature the same powertrain as new 7 Series and the upcoming X7. The base model will most likely feature a familiar 2.0-liter engine, which is good for about 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
There is also a famous inline-six 3.0-liter unit with a max power of 322 horses and 332 pound-feet of torque, as well as 4.4-liter V8, which is good for 443 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. All engines come with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Also, there is a hybrid model. It combines a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor and delivers a total amount of power 326 horses and 369 pound-feet of torque. It is also pretty much for sure that the new 2021 BMW X8 will feature a large 6.6-liter V12 engine as well. This engine is good for 600 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.
2021 BMW X8 release date and price
The new 2021 BMW X8 will probably come in about two years. However, it is still early to speculate about the more precise launch date. It is expected to be the one of the most expensive models from BMW, but exact numbers are still unknown. The most of luxury carmakers already have their players in the segment. Some of them are direct rivals. Those are models like Audi Q8 and Range Rover Velar. However, we believe that the new 2021 X8 will be also available to compete with more upscale SUVs like Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus etc.
