This small crossover is definitely one of the best electric cars around and it was about time to see another vehicle on the BEV II platform. So, it is easy to conclude that this will be an entry-level crossover. It will come to the North American market but, more importantly, to China as well. We all know that this country has big ambitions to significantly cut emissions in the upcoming years. Expect the new 2018 Buick small SUV to come by the end of the year.

2018 Buick small SUV design

Although we didn’t manage to get some more specific details, some things about the upcoming model are pretty clear. For example, the new 2018 Buick small SUV will be heavily based on the Chevy Bolt EV. The excellent SUV from Chevrolet has been praised for its excellent quality, range, performance. GM designed a completely new platform especially for this model. So, it will be a real shame to not see some other models riding on the excellent BEV architecture.

The new 2018 Buick small SUV will feature similar dimensions to the Bolt. Moreover, a wheelbase should be completely the same. Even the powertrain should be the same. On the other side, Buick will implement its own design language. So, expect unique styling, as well as interior design. We expect to see a little bit more luxurious cabin, with more upscale materials and some additional technologies.

2018 Buick small SUV styling

The styling will be the most distinctive details of the 2018 Buick small SUV for sure. The new crossover will feature similar dimensions to Bolt, but a completely different shape. So, we are about to see Buick’s recognizable design philosophy that can be seen on other models. This includes a floating roof as well. However, we expect to see many new details too. This model should come with an improved design of the front end, which will be some kind of a prelude to the brand’s next-gen design language. Interior will, on the other side, be pretty unique. It will be different compared to Bolt, but also different from what we can see on current Buick models. The new 2018 Buick small SUV will get a more premium design, with better materials and new technologies. Also, expect to see a completely digital dashboard, with a large tablet-like touchscreen.

2018 Buick small SUV powertrain

The 2018 Buick small SUV will most likely use completely the same system as Bolt. So, we should see a familiar 200-hp electric motor with 266 pound-feet of torque, which will send power to front wheels. The Chevy Bolt features a 60-kWh battery pack, which provides a max range of 238 miles. So, we can expect similar results from the new 2018 Buick small SUV as well.  Additionally, we could see an extended-range version, with more capacity and better range.
