2018 Chevy Bolt Electric SUV Review

After the last-year launch, the 2018 Chevy Bolt Electric SUV comes without more important changes. The new model from Chevrolet came last year in October. For the second year of production, it comes with pretty much same design characteristics. It is a small electric SUV, designed for an everyday ride. Compared to some other electric vehicles, this model is much cheaper. Its approachable price should be one of its main benefits. It is also very pleasant to drive, thanks to its powerful electric motor.

Finally, it features a pretty amazing range of almost 240 miles, which is something that even much more expensive models can’t achieve. For the next year, the company prepared only minor changes. The base design, as well as powertrain, remains the same. On the other side, there are some minor tweaks when it comes to the list of standard features.

2018 Chevy Bolt Electric SUV design

As we already mentioned, the 2018 Chevy Bolt Electric SUV keeps the same design. It is basically the same car as the outgoing 2017-year model. The biggest changes are in terms of new standard features. For example, an automatically heated steering wheel is now part of the Comfort and Convenience package on the LT trim and is standard on the upscale Premier model. Also, there are new sun visors that slide, which is a nice addition that allows more flexibility in blocking the sun. The rest of the crossover remains the same.

The 2018 Chevy Bolt Electric SUV comes with the completely same styling and interior design. However, there are few new color options in the offer. This small crossover is still pretty fresh, so some more important changes definitely weren’t necessary. Some bigger updates will probably come in about two years.

2018 Chevy Bolt Electric SUV features

The 2018 Chevy Bolt Electric SUV really comes with some smaller revisions in terms of equipment, but the core remains the same. There are two trims in the offer – LT and Premier. The base LT comes with standard features like 17-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, a rearview camera, and keyless ignition and entry. Also, there are things like a configurable gauge cluster display, automatic climate control, a 10.2-inch touchscreen, OnStar, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, and a six-speaker sound system with two USB ports. The upscale Premier trim adds plenty of conveniences. For example, there are things like cargo roof rails, leather seats, ambient interior lighting, heated rear seats, a center rear armrest, a top-down parking camera system and an upgraded, camera-based rearview mirror. Of course, there are also many optional packages and standalone feature available in both trims.

Naturally, powertrain remains the same. The 2018 Chevy Bolt Electric SUV comes with a powerful electric motor that comes in a pair with a large-capacity 60kWh battery pack. The total output of the electric motor goes around 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. This is definitely more than enough for such small crossover. This electric SUV needs less than 7 seconds for the 0-60 sprint, which is pretty impressive. Things like fuel economy and range are even more impressive. According to EPA ratings, this crossover can make 238 miles on a single charge. On the other side, fuel economy goes to impressive 120 miles per gallon. Also, some sources suggest that company could introduce a new extended-range version in the future, with larger battery package.

2018 Chevy Bolt Electric SUV price and competition

The 2018 Chevy Bolt Electric SUV keeps the same price, which goes in a range between 37.500 and 42.000 dollars roughly. When it comes to the competition, this model competes not only with SUVs but also with every other electric vehicle on the market. So, there are models like Kia Soul EV, Nissan Leaf, VW e-Golf, BMW i3 and many others, including even Honda Clarity.
