The European Dodge Journey will once again come without bigger changes, as 2018 Fiat Freemont. This crossover might sound Italian, but it is a true American crossover.
It came in 2011 and it is practically a rebadged version of the Dodges model. With this name, it comes in Europe, but it is also offered in Australia. Compared to the Journey, it is practically the same, except it comes with Fiat’s badge. So, it is basically a nine-year-old crossover, which will hardly play some more important role on the market that is full of much younger and better crossover. We hope that the redesign will come soon, although there are also some reports about discontinuation.
Anyway, the 2018 Freemont will come without changes. It will come with the completely same characteristics, although we could see some smaller updates in terms of new standard features.
2018 Fiat Freemont redesign
As we already mentioned, 2018 Fiat Freemont will come without bigger changes. It is basically the same vehicle as Journey. It rides on the same familiar JC platform from Chrysler, which looks pretty outdated nowadays. There aren’t many models on the market with Freemont’s age on the market. Despite it was launched in 2011, it practically dates from 2008, when Journey came. In terms of styling, we didn’t see many changes since then. This model received an update several years ago, but the base shape and design language are still here.
The same is with interior design. The 2018 Fiat Freemont will come with a familiar cabin, which is completely different from all other models of this Italian car maker. Its design looks pretty rugged and doesn’t feature Italian flavor at all. Despite its age and outdated design, list of equipment is still pretty good.
2018 Fiat Freemont trim levels
The 2018 Fiat Freemont will come with the same trims as the current 2017 year model. The base model comes with standard features such as 17-inch alloy wheels, traction control, tire pressure monitoring system, cruise control, brake assist, USB ports, Bluetooth, ESP, leather-wrapped steering wheel etc.
The next one is called Urban and it comes with a diesel engine. It also comes with standard features such as power windows, power mirrors, start-stop button, steering wheel-mounted controls, fog lights, 12-volt power outlet etc.
The Lounge trim adds plenty of great features. In this package, you get things like 19-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, reverse camera, roof racks, satellite navigation etc.
Finally, there is a Crossroad version, which adds the third row of seats, 7-speaker sound system, heated front seats, headrests, rear-seat enhancement pack etc. Each of this version could receive few new standard features for the next year.
2018 Fiat Freemont engines
The 2018 Fiat Freemont will continue with the same engines. The base model will come with a 2.4-liter engine, which is good for 168 horsepower and 160 pound-feet of torque. There is also a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 in the offer. For this occasion, it is good for about 276 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come with an automatic gearbox.
There are also two diesel options in the offer. This crossover comes with Fiat’s famous MultiJet engine, which comes in two output variants. The base one is good for about 138 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The more powerful variant adds around 30 horses. Both units come with a 6-speed manual transmission. Diesel-powered models, as well as models with V6, are also available with AWD layout. With diesel engines, fuel economy goes up to 35 mpg in a combined drive.
2018 Fiat Freemont release date and price
The 2018 Fiat Freemont should come in usual time, which is somewhere late in the year, probably in December. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect changes. So, the base model will go around 25.000 dollars, while best-equipped models could go all away up to 35.000 dollars.
