Latest reports suggest that the Japanese manufacturer could go for another try with the 2018 Honda Crosstour. If you find this nameplate familiar, we remind you that this model was in production until a few years ago. It is a derivate of the iconic Accord sedan. The company wanted to create a vehicle that will rival another excellent crossover, Subaru Outback. This model from Subaru basically established this segment still dominates it.
The previous Crosstour had a perfect base. It featured excellent design, based on Accord. However, it didn’t have enough personality to attract some bigger number of buyers and become successful. After few years of the brake, Honda will go for another try. According to several sources, the 2018 Crosstour could come already by the end of this year. You can guess, it will be based on the Accord, but this time we expect distinctive details.
2018 Honda Crosstour redesign
The all-new 2018 Honda Crosstour will come few years after discontinuation. It is pretty much for sure that the new model will come based on the Accord. The iconic sedan came completely new few months ago, with even more amazing characteristics. The new crossover will ride on the same platform and feature pretty much the same mechanics. On the other side, the exterior look should be quite distinctive. Compared to Accord, this model will feature a station wagon-like body style. Also, a much higher ground clearance, which makes it practically a crossover. In terms of styling, we expect to see pretty much the same front end. On the other side, rear end is where Honda wants to make things right. This part of the originally didn’t look so good and it was probably the main reason for its downfall. We hope it will be better this time.

When it comes to the interior design, we are pretty sure that there won’t be many changes compared to Accord. The new generation of the famous sedan came with a brand-new cabin, which looks pretty amazing. All materials are of high quality, while the list of standard features is impressive even in base models. When it comes to equipment and trim levels, we are expecting to see similar organization. To remind you, there are six trim levels in the offer for 2018 Accord. We expect the same for the 2018 Honda Crosstour, but there is also a possibility for reduction of this number. Base models already feature a long list of standard features, including latest-generation touchscreen interface with smartphone integration and much more.
2018 Honda Crosstour engines
The 2018 Honda Crosstour should come with two engines in the offer. Just like the Accord, base models will come with a new 1.5-liter turbo inline-four engine. It is good for about 192 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque and it comes in a pair with CVT. On the other side, there is a new 2.0-liter engine available as optional.
The new turbo inline-four comes as a replacement for the legendary 3.5-liter V6 engines. It is good for about 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque and comes with a brand-new 10-speed automatic transmission. It may feature a similar amount of power as the V6 engine, but the fuel economy is significantly better. Finally, we could expect a hybrid version in the near future, just like it is the case with the new Accord.
2018 Honda Crosstour release date and price
So far, the 2018 Honda Crosstour is nothing more than a rumor. However, various reports suggest that the new model could come already by the end of this year. Price is hard to guess, but we expect around 26.000 dollars for the base model. The main competitor will be Subaru Outback, but there is also VW Golf Alltrack and few others.
