The base model will feature a company’s familiar 2.0-liter atmospheric gasoline engine, which is good for about 150 horses. There is also a newer and more advanced 1.6-liter Turbo, which delivers around 177 horsepower. Finally, there is a small 1.0-liter three-cylinder Turbo, which has a max output of 120 horsepower.
Since this is primarily a car for Europe, there is a diesel engine in the offer too. There is a familiar 1.6-liter CRDi unit, which should deliver around 135 horsepower. The 2018 Kona will feature a two transmission choice. Base models will come with a 6-speed manual, while the 7-speed DCT will be optional gearbox. We also expect to see an all-electric version in next few years, with a max range around 250 miles.
