With most luxury carmakers revamping their lineup to woo the customers, can Honda sit idle? Honda’s luxury wing, Acura has started revamping its portfolio with the new 2019 Acura MDX. The MDX model is the brand’s popular model with the company claiming it to be the highest selling midsized luxury crossover. Introduced in early 2000, the MDX has sold in good numbers in many markets. It has also undergone several revamps.
For the upcoming year, it gets a moderate sprucing up. The changes are in styling, amenities and also safety tech. The infotainment setup has also been enhanced and has a dual-screen setup. The last year model on the Luxury Midsize SUVs list is ranked #13. This model is gaining a score of 8.3 out of 10.
2019 Acura MDX Exterior design is sportier
The 2019 Acura MDX is stylish and sleek looking. It looks more sporty than elegant. The roots lay in the Honda Pilot but it is not a clone of the predecessor.
Two new exterior colors are there San Marino Red and Basque Red. The LED headlights and redesigned grille add to the oomph. Also, we will see some changes and the new hood and front fenders installed. The design attractiveness will also add sporty dual-exhaust outlets and 18-inch standard wheels. On the higher trims, one can get bigger 20-inch wheels.
2019 Acura MDX Interior gets luxury touches
The cabin is quite well designed and it has touches of luxury too. There are 3 rows of seats that can accumulate seven passengers. The base trim can be laden with 2 packages Advance and Technology.
You may opt for wood grains in the cabin. The third row is not very spacious though. There is a large deep center bin, door bins, and large cup holders. There is no doubt, this model will be more stylish than the predecessor. The interior offers same paint palette options like the current one Ebony, Espresso, Graystone and Parchment.
Trim Options and Safety
The base trim gets 18-inch wheels, automatic high beams, sunroof, keyless entry, leather upholstery, auto-dimming rearview mirror and automatic climate control. In Technology trim, you get dual-screen infotainment system, 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, Bluetooth. It also has 20-inch wheels, remote engine start, automatic wipers, navigation, and premium audio system.
The Advance trim adds LED fog lights, surround-view camera system, rear parking sensors, heated steering wheel, front-seat ventilation, additional USB ports. Furthermore, the dual-screen infotainment can be configured differently with Technology and Advance package.
The 2019 Acura MDX scores very well in safety. In fact, it is among the top luxury crossovers getting good marks in safety. The model gets AcuraWatch safety suite that features LED headlights, automatic emergency braking, traction control, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning. The Technology package brings blind-spot monitors.
2019 Acura MDX Powertrain and Fuel Economy
The new model 2019 Acura MDX comes with two engine options. The first one is the regular engine 3.5-liter V6 that makes an output of 290 horsepower.
It is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Ride quality is very enjoyable and highway driving is as good as city driving. The list of fuel economy is long because this model is available eider with front wheel drive system or with AWD optional.
With the FWD this engine will provide 19/27 mpg in the city/highway. However, if we add an auto idle stop and FWD the fuel economy is changing with better results of 20/27 mpg. Furthermore, with the AWD system, the model will give 18/26 mpg. Tha last one is an engine with AWD and auto idle stop system that gives little better economy in the city and same on the highway 19/26 mpg.
2019 Acura MDX Hybrid model
The 2019 Acura MDX gets a Sport Hybrid version which gets AWD and a hybrid setup. However, as for the design changes, the hybrid model is minimalistic facelifted. The interior of this model will get better and bigger 12.3-inch infotainment display, tri-zone automatic climate control, 10-speaker ELS audio system and more.
The 3.0-liter V-6 unit along with three electric motors makes 321 HP. It is mated with a dual-clutch seven-speed transmission. This model will provide good fuel economy in city/highway fuel economy of 26/27 mpg.
2019 Acura MDX Price and Availability
The 2019 Acura MDX is going to be made available in late 2018. Its approx base trim price is $45.000, while the fully loaded model goes up to $60.000. However, the Hybrid model starts at $59.000. This price is around $4000 less than BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance model. In the same price range, one can also get hybrid model Lexus RX 400h.
