After the new refresh, it is clear that the current generation of the famous crossover will carry on for another few years, which indicates that the 2019 Ford Explorer will feature pretty much the same characteristics as new 2018 year model.
The current generation of the famous SUV is present since 2011. This is the year when the legendary model turned to a crossover, unlike first four generations which were in a classic SUV manner. So, the current version is pretty old, but we have seen few updates so far. The last one brings various novelties, both inside and outside and 2019 Explorer is expected to come without bigger changes. It will feature pretty much the same styling as new 2018 year model, but we could see some new things in terms of standard feature, maybe. It should come in usual time, which is somewhere late next year.
2019 Ford Explorer redesign
The 2019 Ford Explorer will come one year after the newest update, so don’t expect bigger changes. It will come with the pretty much same characteristics in all aspects, except we could see some new standard feature. So, it will feature a recently updated styling, which includes a new grille, new exhaust tips, and few other new details when it comes to the exterior.
On the other side, the new interior includes some notable changes too. First of all, there is a new steering wheel available in all trim levels. The 2019 Ford Explorer will also come with the new modem which enables Wi-Fi hotspot. Also, it is worth to mention that there is a new Safe and Smart package, which includes various safety features. There are advanced systems like adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beams and rain-sensing wipers.
2019 Ford Explorer trim levels
The 2019 Ford Explorer will continue with same trims. There are total five trim levels – base, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum. The base model comes with standard features like 18-inch wheels, rearview camera, cruise control, rear climate controls, 4.2-inch screen, Bluetooth and a six-speaker sound system. The XLT doesn’t add many new standard features but offers many options that are not available for the base model. A mid-range Limited comes with things like leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It also adds things like an 8-inch touchscreen display, a nine-speaker sound system, and power-folding third-row seats.
A top-range Platinum trim is full of premium features. Some of them are the panoramic sunroof, a parking assistance system, adaptive cruise control, ventilated front seats, and a 12-speaker Sony audio system. The Sport trim brings changes in mechanical aspects, such as more powerful engine, sporty suspension etc.
2019 Ford Explorer engines
The 2019 Ford Explorer will continue with the same engines. There are three units in the offer. The base model features an old but proven 3.5-liter Duratec engine, which is good for about 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The first option is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four unit, which delivers an impressive amount of power. It is good for about 280 horses and 310 pound-feet of torque.
Finally, there is a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. Compared to the Duratec, it features much more power, better economy, and overall efficiency. A total output is around 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. When it comes to transmission, there are different variants of 6-speed automatic gearbox.
2019 Ford Explorer release date and price
The 2019 Ford Explorer will come in usual time of year, some expect it in late 2018. We don’t expect bigger changes in price, so base models should go around 32.000 dollars. On the other side, top models could go all away up to 55.000 dollars.
Competition in this segment is tough. There are many models in the offer, but we believe that Explorer’s key competitors will be crossovers like Toyota Highlander, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Nissan Pathfinder etc.
