The newest addition to the Hyundai’s new luxury division will be a 2019 Genesis GV80 SUV. The recently-established luxury line of the Korean manufacturer has three sedans in the offer so far. However, if we consider that crossovers are nowadays one of the most popular segments of the car industry, it is clear what to expect next. Every carmaker, premium or mainstream, needs to have crossovers in their lineups.

The new model from Genesis already came in a concept form, while the company recently confirmed its launch for 2019. According to latest reports, production model shouldn’t be much different. The base shape of the concept will definitely remain, but we will definitely see more production-friendly details on it. So, expect a little bit less spectacular parts such as headlights, taillights, bumpers, grille etc. The concept featured a fuel cell plug-in hybrid powertrain but expect gasoline units as well.

The production 2019 Genesis GV80 SUV will most likely look a little bit less spectacular. The recent concept came with numerous interesting and very attractive design solutions. However, many of them will not find their way to the production model. For example, we are pretty sure that attractive twin-stipe headlights will be replaced with something more conventional. The same thing is expected with taillights. The grille and bumpers will also receive some tweaks. Basically, we should see a more familiar design here. The new 2019 GV80 SUV will borrow many parts from G80 sedan, in order to follow design language of the brand. However, some reports suggest that some of these parts from a concept will be available in a top-range trim level. Of course, those small side mirrors will be replaced with ones of a normal size for sure.

While the exterior design will keep most of the concept’s characteristics, the cabin of production model will definitely feature more significant changes. First of all, serial production models, at least those lower trims, definitely will not feature a four-seat configuration. The new 2019 Genesis GV80 SUV will most likely come in a three-row seat configuration. Also, we should see a little bit different dashboard layout, more similar to one in G80 sedan. Also, you should not expect that luxurious leather/aluminum/ash combination, at least not in base models. The list of hi-tech features should be amazing, but don’t expect such huge touchscreen and a center console that goes all away to rear seats. Basically, the cabin design will be pretty much the same as in G80. Naturally, we will see many new details adapted to the crossover.

2019 Genesis GV80 SUV powertrain

As we already mentioned, the concept version features fuel cell plug-in hybrid powertrain. However, there is no specific data for this advanced system. Still, his version could find its way to the serial production. However, we are pretty sure that the new model will come with more conventional sources of power.

The base model will probably feature a familiar 3.8-liter V6, which is good for about 311 horsepower and 293 pound-feet of torque. Also, we are pretty sure that the new crossover will be available with a V8 unit as well. It is a familiar 5.0-liter engine, which has a max output of 420 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Both gasoline engines will come in a pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

2019 Genesis GV80 SUV release date and price

The exact launch date of the new 2019 Genesis GV80 SUV is still unknown, but latest reports suggest second half of the next year. On the other side, we didn’t hear anything about the price. At the moment, we can make some rough prediction. The new crossover will compete with large SUVs like Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7 etc. These models are available somewhere around 70.000 dollars. Despite the fact that Genesis is a premium brand, we believe that Hyundai is willing to continue as a little bit cheaper alternative. So, we can predict that the base 2019 GV80 SUV could cost around 65.000 dollars or something like that.
