Hyundai which is among the popular carmakers obviously cannot sit idle and let rivals make most of the opportunity. It has a number of hybrid vehicles in the lineup but the latest weapon from its stable is the 2019 Hyundai Nexo a fuel cell powered SUV.
With time, a majority of car manufacturers are focusing on making environment-friendly vehicles and this includes the luxury brands too. That is why the number of electric and hybrid technology driven vehicles have shot up. These greener fuel based vehicles are yet to be embraced by mainstream car buyers but you can spot their number rising with time.
2019 Hyundai Nexo will replace the model Tucson fuel cell
The technology used in green fuel based vehicles is also evolving with time. You have more choices than buying a pure electric vehicle or another based on hybrid technology. The Ioniq compact hatchback is one of Hyundai’s contenders in this segment. However, the Consumer Electronics Show 2018 was where the company showcased the new Nexo Crossover SUV a car powered by fuel cell technology.
It is deemed as a replacement for the company’s Tucson fuel cell vehicle. The Hyundai Nexo comes with major enhancements in departments like performance, design and autonomous vehicle technology. However, for mass adoption of such vehicles, widespread network of hydrogen fueling infrastructure has to be set up.
As a matter of fact, the 2019 Hyundai Nexo does not look radically different from most of the fuel-driven crossovers on roads! The compact crossover has a cabin that can accommodate 5 persons. Exterior styling is clean and in sync, with Hyundai vehicles, you see nowadays. The LED running lights, aero-styled alloy wheels and grille make it look suave and stylish.
Interior and Tech
The cabin of 2019 Hyundai Nexo exudes a sleek appeal. The dashboard layout is uncluttered. There are 2 screens measuring 12.3 inches in total. Hyundai has equipped the 2019 Nexo with a set of driver assist technologies. This marks the South Korean carmaker’s jump into the autonomous driving segment. The Lane Following Assist and Highway Driving Assist are present. Hyundai SmartSense tech brings pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, automatic high beams and remote parking assist.
2019 Hyundai Nexo Engine Performance
The USP of the 2019 Hyundai Nexo definitely is its powertrain. Its engine has a 95-kW fuel cell stack along with a 40-kW lithium-ion battery. The combination makes an output of 180 HP. The car can reach 60 mph in about 9.2 seconds.
This may not be blazing fast but better than the hydrogen-fueled Tucson. Once filled with compressed Hydrogen, the Nexo can run for 370 miles- which is decent. The cabin remains practically quiet which is bliss. The fuel cell lifecycle is approx 5000 hours.
2019 Hyundai Nexo Price and Availability
The price of 2019 Hyundai Nexo is yet unknown. Initially, it will be sold only in limited numbers. It will be sold in selected countries initially including Canada.
Summing it up
The 2019 Hyundai Nexo is a promising vehicle and it can redefine future of green technology cars. However, its success will also depend on final pricing and wider availability of hydrogen refilling centers.
