Although Japanese manufacturer decided to drop this famous crossover, it looks like that 2019 Infiniti QX70 is going to come back. According to latest reports, the company works on the new generation.
The original version came in 2003, under FX name. We saw two generations so far. The second generation comes in 2008 and later gets a new name in 2013, QX70. Still, sales didn’t go so well in last few years. Additionally, there is already a newer QX50, which takes a similar spot in the brand’s lineup. Considering all this, it was an expected move. Still, various sources suggest a new generation in a year or two.

According to them, the 2019 Infiniti QX70 will come completely new. This model has always been taking a special place in brand’s lineup. It is probably the first coupe-like crossover, despite that BMW X6 usually takes all the credit. Still, some significant changes need to be done, if the company wants to have a competitive model in its offer.
First of all, it is important to mention that there is already a similar-size crossover in the Infiniti’s lineup, QX50. This model is pretty fresh and in a big advantage. Still, the 2019 Infiniti QX70 has a great potential, if some design changes are going to be included. This refers mostly to stretching the wheelbase, as well as some additional things.

So, what could be a winning combination for the successful 2019 Infiniti QX70? The first thing that comes to our minds is a longer wheelbase. Compared to the new QX50, it should be longer, with more space inside, the third row as standard features etc. Also, important thing is that the possible new crossover will definitely borrow the platform from new Murano. This means an FWD layout, unlike RWD which was the case so far. However, we presume that the premium crossover will include an all-wheel-drive option as well.
Finally, there’s a new styling to come. There are already few crossovers that use brand’s newest design language, like QX50 and QX80. So, this is where 2019 Infiniti QX70 should be looking for inspiration. The same thing goes on the inside.
2019 Infiniti QX70 engines
When it comes to engines, we expect that the 2019 Infiniti QX70 will continue with a V6 unit. So far, this model has been using a famous 3.7 engine. For the next generation, this unit could easily carry over. Of course, this will include some tweaks that will give more power. For example, we could see something similar as in the QX50. A 3.7-liter V6 with around 330 horsepower should be a great choice for the new generation. Of course, there is always room for some new, more efficient units. We could easily see some smaller and more efficient four-cylinder engine in the offer. Finally, a diesel version for the European market is pretty much certain.
