The 2019 Infiniti QX80 is about to come completely redesigned. Or maybe not? Carmakers usually use redesigns to introduce a completely new platform. The new architecture gives many improvements, such as better driving dynamics, more space and new technologies. However, the third generation of the Nissan luxurious SUV will continue to ride on the current architecture, which is present since 2011, when second-generation model came.
The new version of the luxury SUV will get a completely new look, but we are about to see a familiar platform, which will include even the same engine in the offer. Reasons for this move are numerous. However, the most important one is that this segment is as competitive as some others. While smaller car-like crossovers need constant updates, this is still primarily a utility vehicle. The new generation had its premiere in New York and it will come by the end of year.
2019 Infiniti QX80 redesign
So, what will be new about 2019 Infiniti QX80? Well, the most notable is a new styling. The company introduced a completely new exterior design. It does have some similarities with the current generation, but it is highly distinctive. Since it rides on the familiar platform, you can notice a familiar shape. However, it wears a completely new suit. You can notice various styling cues from the brand’s latest design language, but also plenty of unique details. There is a new double-arched grille, which is bigger and features a completely new pattern. Also, the new 2019 QX80 comes with new human-eye headlights, which became brand’s signature feature. The overall shape comes with sharper lines, which provides more aggressive stance. Details about interior design are still unknown, but we expect various changes, compared to the current model as well.
2019 Infiniti QX80 engine
Naturally, keeping the platform means keeping the same engine. The 2019 Infiniti QX80 will continue with the same familiar 5.6-liter V8 engine. However, we didn’t manage to get information about possible tweaks on it. So, it is still unclear is it going to get some additional horsepower or not. In the current model, it outputs 400 horses and 413 pound-feet of torque. It comes in a pair with a 7-speed automatic transmission. Also, you should expect similar results in terms of towing, which means around 8.500 pounds. Besides this large V8, there is a chance to see some smaller and more efficient unit in the offer as well. Of course, this version will be optional. We expect to see some turbocharge V6 unit in the offer, but details about new powertrain are yet about to come.
2019 Infiniti QX80 competition
Although not competitive as some others, this segment includes several serious players. The key player on the market should be a new Ford Explorer. This model comes completely redesigned and features some significant changes. It features a new, aluminum chassis, as well as some other important novelties.
On the other side, GM introduced new versions of its Chevy Tahoe and Suburban. It is a performance version that features a mighty 6.2-liter V8. It is good for 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and it comes with a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
