2019 Kia Niro EV Review, Release date

A few days ago, we have seen the presentation of the all-electric 2019 Kia Niro EV. The new version of a small crossover is close to the production line and we could see it already in the second half of year. This is another version of the new subcompact SUV that came last year.

The original version came in a plug-in hybrid variant, based on the already-recognizable Ioniq. The new version came with the all-electric powertrain, but that is not the only distinctive detail about the new model. We can clearly see some modification on the styling, as well as on the inside.

Finally, the company promised some brand-new technologies to be introduced with this crossover. Although there is still some job to do, latest reports suggest that the production model will be ready by the end of the year. Expect attractive design, long range, great performances and much more.

2019 Kia Niro EV redesign

As we already mentioned, the new 2019 Kia Niro EV relies on the plug-in hybrid version of Niro. However, there is a whole bunch of modification that engineers from the Korean manufacturer made for this occasion. Although the base design remains the same, you can clearly notice some very distinctive details. For example, there is a completely new front end. Since electric motors don’t require airflow, radiator and similar things, there is no need for a classic grille design. Instead of that, you can notice an interactive display with various kinds of messages. Also, there is a new headlights design, as well as a more attractive bumper. Changes came to the rear end as well. There are new taillights, as well as several other new parts that improve aerodynamics and provide more attractive styling. The interior design of the new 2019 Kia Niro EV also comes with plenty of novelties.

There are many novelties inside the 2019 Kia Niro EV as well. First of all, there is a new dashboard design, which comes in a pretty minimalistic manner. Naturally, all controls are completely digitalized, including inevitable large touchscreens on the console. Besides the new look, the new interior will also come with some brand-new technologies. According to the company, we are about to see a self-driving technology in the production model. However, we still don’t know exact details about this feature. Some sources suggest that the new crossover will come with a Level-4 autonomous technology in next several years. This means an almost complete absence of driver’s control of the vehicle. Also, the driver will have the ability give commands by his gesture, according to the company’s spokesman.

2019 Kia Niro EV powertrain

We finally came to the most important aspect of the new 2019 Kia Niro EV. This version of a small crossover comes with the all-electric powertrain. So far, we know that the new crossover will feature a powerful 150-kW electric motor, which means around 205 horsepower. The potent electric motor comes in a pair with a 64-kWh battery pack, which will provide some impressive results when it comes to the range. According to the company’s spokesman, the new model will be able to make around 240 miles on a single charge. These amazing numbers will definitely make the new 2019 Kia Niro EV very competitive. Besides new electric powertrain, Niro will also continue to be offered in a plug-in hybrid version. This version features a max output of 140 horses and 195 pound-feet of torque and comes with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
