If you are looking for large sized luxury crossovers the market is replete with options. The new 2019 Lincoln MKT is a decent candidate but it does not come with an outstanding feature to race ahead of the segment rivals- some of which are extremely popular.
This three-row luxury crossover is based on Ford Flex and offers good comfort and amenities. However, the new model will feature a retro style that is recognized. It will be laden with three engine choice and one of them from some speculations will be a hybrid one.
2019 Lincoln MKT exterior looks outmode
The biggest drawback of the 2019 Lincoln MKT is its design which seriously looks outdated. The new model gets new exterior hues and 2 trim levels Reserve and premier. Its tall wagon look is classy but somewhat dull.
The cabin of Lincoln MKT is classy looking and there is some high tech installed. However, the seats are absolutely comfortable and it is ideal for long trips. While the third row may be difficult to access for taller passengers- it is not cramped.
The cabin looks the best in Bridge of Weir style leather upholstery. Cargo capacity is decent and by default, it stands at 17.9 feet. Material quality is upscale- as expected. The audio and climate controls may look swanky but they are not really user-friendly.
Amenities and safety features
What the 2019 Lincoln MKT lacks in looks, makes up in amenities. Safety-wise, all trims get a rearview camera, anti-lock brakes, stability control, active park assist and six airbags. The Reserve trim can be also equipped with collision warnings. However, it still misses out on automated emergency braking.
The 2019 Lincoln MKT gets a vivid 8.0-inch screen to control the infotainment setup. It is based on Ford’s newest version of Sync 3 software. The MKT Premiere gets 19-inch alloy wheels, glass sunroof, HID headlights, leather upholstery, heated front seats and remote start. The MKT Reserve adds THX-branded audio, automatic wipers, heated steering wheel, tri-zone automatic climate control, blind-spot monitors, active cruise control, remote engine start and navigation.
A Technology Package is available. The Reserve trim may be laden with the Elite package which brings the premium audio system, navigation. You may also go for a few Stand-alone options like 20-inch wheels, rear-seat entertainment setup and a panoramic power sunroof.
2019 Lincoln MKT engine and transmission
The 2019 Lincoln MKT is laden with a 3.7-liter V-6 engine which makes 303 HP. However, you can also opt for the more powerful 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 unit which makes an output of 365 horsepower, and 350 lb.-ft. of torque. Both models will come with a 6-Speed automatic transmission.
The newest model will come with the standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel-drive system. Ride quality is good and the second engine gets clubbed with a standard adaptive suspension which enhances the experience. There is also a word of the hybrid variant but official specs are not yet released by the company.
Fuel economy and towing capacity
The EPA estimated rating of 3.5 liters twin-turbo V-6 engine is 15 city/21 hwy/17 combined mpg. However, for the towing capacity, the model with the 3.7-liter engine and with front-wheel drive will be able to maximum tow 2,000 lbs. The towing number of the twin-turbo V-6 is not yet available.
2019 Lincoln MKT price and availability
The 2019 Lincoln MKT will be available for sale sometime in 2019. Furthermore, with the base trim, the pricing is approx $44.000.
Summing it up
Overall, the 2019 Lincoln MKT offers enough luxury features and good powertrain choices but it fails to be on par with segment rivals from stables of German and Italian giants. Its outdated styling is a big deterrent for a section of buyers. It also lags a little in safety department. Lincoln needs to spruce this large crossover up to make it more enticing and viable for the buyers.
