The Eclipse which was a sport compact vehicle and manufactured till 2012 is going to be re-launched. The new model is called Eclipse Sport and is aimed at Nissan Qashqai. It is going to be sold In Europe and Australia primarily. It will be slotted between the Outlander and ASX. This is possibly the last one Mitsubishi model before the company becomes a part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

The midsized SUV is coming with three trims- Eclipse 2, Eclipse 3 and top end Eclipse 4. It has a coupe-like roofline. The cabin will be designed lavishly and cargo space should be more than enough for all necessary stuff. The upcoming model will sit on105.1-inch wheelbase. It will also get a number of small item storage bins and cubicles.

Safety and Trims Features

As a midsized SUV, the upcoming Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a very safe vehicle. Safety features are decent and same can be said about included amenities. All trims get 7.0-inch touchscreen screen infotainment setup. This is compatible with Bluetooth and smartphone. Other features are rear view camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, heated door mirrors, privacy glass, DAB radio cruise control.

All trims get safety features such as Lane Departure Warning, Anti-lock Braking system, Hill Start Assist, Active Stability Control and Forward Collision Mitigation. Of course, there are quite a few airbags in the cabin.

The Cross 3 trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, keyless start, parking sensors, electrically folding door mirrors. Eclipse Cross 4 trim gets leather seats, panoramic roof, premium Rockford Fosgate sound system.

It also gets more advanced safety features like 360-degree parking camera, Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Warning. The infotainment system is good but it relies more on the app. The software is sleek and the included high-resolution touchscreen is easy to use.

The model 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will have under the hood a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine. This engine comes with CVT automatic transmission. The powertrain will have separate drive modes- Auto, Snow and Gravel. Both FWD and AWD will be available. The AWD comes with popular Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system.

However, in selected markets comes with 2.2-litre turbo-diesel. This is the same engine like in Outlander. The new model arrived with standard front-wheel drive system or all four wheels optional. However, all-wheel-drive models will have 8.5 inches of ground clearance.

The newest model with a petrol engine and front wheel drive system will offer good EPA rating of 42.8 mpg. However, with the all-wheel-drive system, the fuel economy is little worse with 40.4mpg. All models can tow 2,000 pounds when properly equipped.

The 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will be available for sale at the end of this year. The base trim price is approx $25,000.
