2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Review, Changes

After years of playing the underdog, Mitsubishi is gearing up to grab a larger share of the market in SUV and crossover segment. The compact SUV 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is all set for a moderate makeover and the upcoming model is being readied for release.

The new model price will undercut contenders like Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Subaru Crosstrek, Mini Cooper and even the Hyundai Tucson.

The exterior styling of 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is dynamic and sporty. The sleekness is evident from all angles. This time bumper and lamps get revised. It is going to be sold in exciting colors like alloy silver metallic, Octane blue metallic, rally red metallic, Labrador black metallic etc. It is available in 3 trims- ES, SE and SEL.

The cabin is sleek but material quality varies across trims. You will find the top trim fitted with better quality materials. However, rivals from stables of Mazda and Toyota get an edge here. Cargo space is decent but once again rivals race ahead. It is a 5 seater but the last row is better suited for 2 adults. Mitsubishi has deployed several noise insulating materials and they work mostly well.

Top SEL trim gets Leather seating, Black roof rails, HID headlights, Auto on/off headlights, Digital HD Radio, Leather-wrapped steering wheel. It can be laden with the Touring package. However, the model brings in advanced safety features like forwarding Collision Mitigation, Automatic High Beam, and Lane Departure Warning along with a Premium Rockford Fosgate Audio System. It also adds a Panoramic Glass Roof.

The base trim of 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport gets equipped with a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine which is paired with 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. It can also be paired with a CVT set up and AWD. This engine will be available with ES, LE trims.

The next one 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine offers better overall performance and it is also paired with a CVT setup. Ride quality is decent on city roads.

The first one engine 2,0 liter offers decent EPA city/highway fuel economy of 23/29 mpg (manual), 24/30 mpg (automatic, FWD) and 23/29 mpg (automatic, AWD). However, the next one 2,4 liter will be available in trims (SE, SEL). Its fuel economy is 23/28 mpg (FWD) and 22/27 mpg (AWD).

The upcoming Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is a decent compact SUV that has enticing exterior styling and well-performing engines. It lags a bit in interior material quality and cargo space but these are not major glitches. Top safety features are also optional and they are available only for top trim. It has an alluring price tag and top trim gets some customization choices too. The 5-year warranty offered by Mitsubishi sweetens the deal.
