JLR is busy sprucing up its SUV and crossover portfolio to take on rivals from stables of BMW and Audi. The newest model 2019 Range Rover Velar has got a revamp as a result.
The beautiful mid-sized SUV is slotted between the company’s Evoque and Sport models. It is aimed at giving JLR more market share in the fast-growing luxury SUV segment.
2019 Range Rover Velar exterior and interior quality
The exterior styling of the 2019 Range Rover Velar is enticing and the car is a stunner from all angles. The Velar is relatively low-slung and sleeker looking than its siblings.
The narrow LED lighting strips and recessed door handles exude an urban appeal. Overall, the design is pretty aerodynamic.
The craftsmanship and stamp of sheer elegance continue to sin the cabin of 2019 Range Rover Velar. The seats can be ordered to be wrapped in quality Windsor leather with Cut Diamond pattern. There are dual touch screens which are bright and very responsive.
The floating center console looks suave. You get just two circular dials instead of switches and buttons. The ambient lighting is subtle and cup holder stays hidden by default. Quality wood and metal have been used in its cabin. Overall, the cabin oozes British elegance.
Amenities and safety features
JLR has laden the 2019 Range Rover Velar with plenty of technologies. Both amenities and safety tech are class leading. The company’s revamped InControl Touch Pro infotainment system works well and the UI is enticing as well. The 10-inch display works like charm. There are massaging seats and you can change massaging mode by only a finger tap. You may have to use 3-4 taps to adjust seat cooling and heating. However, the two physical, rotating dials can also be used for these needs.
The sad thing is that the infotainment system still lacks support for Smartphone operating systems. The car’s Wi-Fi network can be used when you use a SIM card. The setup supports 8 devices at the same time. There are USB charging ports, deep storage bin, 12V socket and an HDMI port. You also get a navigation system and a Meridian sound system is optional.
The safety features comprise of autonomous emergency braking, radar cruise control, lane-keep assist and there is a ‘driver condition monitor’ too. Parking assistance is optional.
2019 Range Rover Velar engine options
The 2019 Range Rover Velar is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that gives an output of 247 horsepower and torque of 269 lb-ft.
However, diesel lovers can go for a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel inline-4 that delivers 180 horsepower at 317 lb-ft of torque. For the end comes the powerful one 3.0-liter supercharged V6. This one is making 380 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 332 lb-ft of torque. Ride quality is superb with minimal body roll and tight grip even when you corner the vehicle.
A ‘dynamic’ driving mode is there and there are other drive modes too. However, the company calls the drive modes Terrain Response.
In this section, the first one engine that is also the base one 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 gives this model EPA city/highway fuel economy of 21/27 mpg.
However, the diesel one is rated at 26/30 mpg, while the supercharged V6 scores 18/24 mpg.
