Toyota the Japanese carmaker is busy revamping its car portfolio for 2018 and subsequent years. The midsized SUV 2019 Toyota Highlander also getting revamped- as a result. Introduced in 2000 and 2001, the Highlander is one of the top-selling vehicles from the stable of Toyota.

It is slotted above the company’s compact RAV4 and beneath the full sized Sequoia, in the lineup. With new styling, a choice of powertrains and advanced safety features- it looks like a promising contender.

The 2019 Toyota Highlander is a large vehicle- only next to the Sequoia in the Toyota SUV and crossover lineup. The new version gets a stylish grille and different trims get unique grille. The trims are- LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, Limited, and Limited Platinum. Furthermore, the most of the trims can be bought with hybrid engine setups. Available exterior color choices are Midnight black metallic, celestial silver metallic, salsa red pearl, toasted walnut pearl, shoreline blue pearl etc.

The 2019 Highlander is also laden with enough amenities and class-leading safety features. As expected, top two trims get the most features by default.

The LE trim gets 18-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, keyless entry, Entune infotainment system, Bluetooth, five USB ports, rearview camera. LE Plus trim adds an 8.0-inch touch screen, leather-wrapped steering wheel and tri-zone automated climate control. In XLE trim, you also get leather upholstery, navigation, heated front seats, keyless start and sunroof. SE trim gets black leather upholstery and contrast stitching and also 19-inch black alloy wheels.

In Limited trim, there are also features like perforated leather upholstery, JBL premium audio system, ventilated front seats, chrome-look alloy wheels. Limited Platinum trim gets a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree view camera system, dark chrome alloy wheels, and heated steering wheel.

The 2019 Highlander scores very well in safety features. All trims get plenty of airbags and Toyota Safety Sense-P suite. This suite comprises of advanced safety features such as pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and automatic high beams. XLE and later trims get features like Blind-spot warning.

You get three engine choices while buying the 2019 Highlander and all of them are good performers, as it is. The 2.7-liter I-4 engine makes 185 hp. The EPA rating is 20/24 mpg. The 3.5-liter V-6 is ideal for demanding users and it generates 295 hp. The base four-cylinder powertrain gets mated with a six-speed automatic transmission gearbox while the powerful V6 gets an advanced eight-speed automatic gearbox. The towing capacity is 5000 pounds for regular fuel driven version.

The Hybrid version of Toyota Highlander unites a 3.5-liter V-6 unit with AC 650-volt permanent-magnet motors. The nickel metal hydride battery and CVT are also there. The total output is 306 HP. However, this engine will be available in the LE, XLE, Limited, Limited Platinum trims. This model comes with fuel economy city/highway 30/28 mpg for the (LE) and 29/27 mpg for the XLE, Limited, Limited Platinum models. The towing capacity for the hybrid version is 3,500 pounds.

Exact release time of 2019 Toyota Highlander is not known. However, it may be unveiled in mid to late 2018. Base trim price should be close to $32,000 while Limited Platinum version with hybrid engine may get priced around $50.000.

There are some things you will like about the 2019 Toyota Highlander. The styling is nice and the cabin is roomy. You get enough powertrain choices. The price range also covers a wide span, for sure. However, the base trims lack certain amenities. It will lock horns with rivals like Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer and Nissan Pathfinder.
