2020 Audi Q3 and RS Q3 / SQ3 Redesign and Changes

The new, second-generation 2020 Audi Q3 is in the late stage of development and will hit the market pretty soon, probably by the end of the year. After eight years, the original version of this compact luxury crossover will be redesigned. So far, we have seen one major update a few years ago, but now it’s time for something bigger. Considering that most of the competitors are quite younger, this redesign seems logical. The new model will be more competitive, with the new styling, better comfort, improved design characteristics etc.

We expect to see performance versions as well. Of course, the base model will come first, to introduce all the novelties. Soon after, we will see two familiar performance badges from Audi – SQ3 and RS Q3. These two versions will come with a bunch of modifications, in order to provide real racing performances.

2020 Audi Q3 Redesign

Of course, base models always come first. The new Audi Q3 is almost ready to hit the market. From what we can see on the testing model, it will come with a lot of novelties. First of all, there is a new platform. That is a famous VW MQB architecture, which is used for pretty much all compact cars from this huge conglomerate, as well as for mainstream mid-size cars. The new platform will bring several benefits. First of all, you can count on improved ride quality, especially in terms of riding dynamics. The new model will be lighter, with better suspension components and better aerodynamics. All this will make the 2020 Audi Q3 more stable and agile in corners, but also more comfortable on the inside. Another important aspect of a new architecture is improved legroom, thanks to a better use of space.

2020 Audi Q3 Styling

In terms of styling, the 2020 Audi Q3 will get a completely new look. Though still camouflaged, it seems pretty obvious that the new model will come with a pretty much same shape as recently introduced Q5, just in a smaller package. Under the camouflage, it is easy to notice Audi’s new design language. Of course, the highlights are at the front, where we can notice a new pair of headlights, characterized by sharp lines, but the odd shape. Also, there is a new grille, which keeps a similar shape but gets new proportions. Of course, the front bumper is the element that makes biggest differences. It features much sharper lines which accentuate the crossover’s modern characters. Despite all these novelties, the new 2020 Audi Q3 will retain brand’s conventional character. Everything seems to be in the place and there is no room for experiments with the styling.

2020 Audi Q3 Interior Design

Just with the exterior design, the company brings a fine dose of novelties, while keeping the brand’s recognizable conventional character. The new cabin is spacious, though it gives that tight sporty feel, thanks to a massive center console and dashboard in overall. Speaking of the dash, we are pretty sure that the 2020 Audi Q3 will stick to what we can see on A3 and Q5 models. This means a lot of straight, mostly horizontal lines, which give that premium feel. Of course, we should see top-quality materials but that is expected from this manufacturer.

Unlike some other premium makers, Audi won’t digital all controls on the dahs. Of course, we will see a large touchscreen at the center, with the latest infotainment system. Still, we won’t see the second touchscreen for climate controls and similar things. In this aspect, 2020 Audi Q3 will stick to good old analog buttons.

2020 Audi Q3 Engines

Audi has been updated its engine lineup recently, so we don’t expect bigger surprises in this aspect. The 2020 Audi Q3 will rely of several turbo inline-four units, starting from a 1.4-liter TFSI unit with 150 horsepower. Of course, there will be a bigger and more powerful 2.0-liter unit in the offer as well. This engine comes in three output variants, with either 180, 200, or 220 horsepower.

Also, expect to see a familiar diesel version in Europe. There are three variants of a familiar 2.0-liter TDI unit, with a max output of 120, 150 and 184 horsepower.

Finally, expect to see some electrified powertrain in the offer, as well as hi-performance engines for SQ3 and RS Q3 models.

2020 Audi SQ3

Along with the redesign, we expect to see new performance versions as well. Those are two familiar names, SQ3 and RS Q3. The 2020 Audi SQ3 will come first, most likely a year after the launch of base models. Of course, the most important thing about this version is a new engine. Though we still don’t know exact details, that would probably be a hi-output version of a familiar 2.0-liter engine. Most likely, the output will go up to 300 horsepower, if not more.

Besides new powertrain, this version of 2020 Audi Q3 should also come with a bunch of new details which will accentuate vehicle’s sporty character. Of course, expect to see things like a new bumper with larger air intakes, new wheels design, red brake calipers and much more.

2020 Audi RS Q3

The most powerful version of this crossover is last in the line. For this occasion, we expect the use of the same five-cylinder unit that we can find under the hood of RS 3. It is a 2.5-liter turbo inline-five engine which delivers around 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Of course, we will see plenty of other modifications. Some of them will be mechanical, like new suspension and brakes. On the other side, there will also be a bunch of new visual details to emphasize crossover’s hi-performance character. This should include interior changes as well.

The new generation of this compact crossover will come pretty soon. The base model is expected to hit the market by the end of the year. On the other side, hi-performance versions will probably hit the market about a year later. The price of the base model shouldn’t be much different compared to the current version, which starts around 33.000 dollars.

Competition is very tough. Some of the rivals are BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Volvo XC40, Infiniti QX30 etc.
