2020 BMW X1 Hybrid Range, Price, Interior

BMW is updating its smallest crossover for the new season. Among many changes, the carmaker is adding a hybrid drivetrain as well. Even the 2020 BMW X1 Hybrid is going to use the new features and platform the Bavarian company is preparing. One of the highlights will be a lot of options for upgrades and customization.

By adding the hybrid engine, BMW joins the party in the subcompact luxurious segment. Lexus is definitely one of the best-known hybrid makers because of its all-new UX crossover. Of course, the Japanese rival is not the only competitor. In this segment, you can also find Volvo XC40, Jaguar E-Pace, or Infiniti QX30.

The 2020 BMW X1 Hybrid is the next step in the development of this vehicle. The second generation of the crossover was launched in 2015. In the US, the car is using only petrol drivetrains, while in the rest of the world diesel units are also available. Now, the hybrid engine is going to draw new customers and increase the sales figures.

2020 BMW X1 Hybrid Specs

One thing is certain – the 2020 BMW X1 Hybrid is just a first step in full electrification of the crossover. The company plans further developments and by 2025 the X1 is going to become the EV. Currently, it is a PHEV – plug-in hybrid. That means the existing system is allowing the drive by using only electric power as a source of power.

Under the hood of the 2020 BMW X1 Hybrid is a turbocharged I3 petrol engine that can produce 123 hp and 160 pound-feet of torque. It sends energy to front wheels. The xDrive25e system is adding an electric motor to the rear axle. It makes 95 horsepower and 120 pound-feet of twist. The total output you are getting from this configuration is 210 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. A similar setup is already available on the Chinese market as X1 xDrive25Le. European and US buyers are getting a slightly modified system.

PHEV Range

Another part of the hybrid setup is an electric battery. It comes with a capacity of 9.7 kWh and the total electric range of 31 miles (50 km). The German carmaker is not going to increase the size of this unit, which means capacity and range will remain the same for the upcoming hybrid.

2020 BMW X1 Hybrid Redesign

BMW is definitely preparing some changes for the X1. Whatsoever, we still don’t know details. Some experts are claiming the crossover is heading into the new generation. We would rather expect the mid-cycle update after five years in production.

Last year, the company produced 286,000 units of X1. Sales in the US are not the best, with only 30,000 X1s sold. On the other hand, European buyers are crazy about the subcompact model. Now, with the redesign and a hybrid drivetrain, the vehicle is going to be attractive to all sorts of buyers.

Cosmetic changes are not radical. Designers are updating the front fascia with the new bumper and headlights. Also, you will find repositioned fog lights and larger air intakes. The company is using a two-tone paint job. For the new X1 and its hybrid version, more details will be painted in the color of the body, including side mirrors. The redesign of a rear bumper is something that will draw attention, as well as the eye-catching exhaust tips. Finally, the taillights are also offering a new shape. The 2020 BMW X1 Hybrid will enter the market with metallic colors named Storm Bay, Misano blue, and Jucaro Beige.

Interior

As a premium crossover, the 2020 BMW X1 Hybrid is offering a lot of hi-tech features. According to announcements, the cabin is not suffering a total overhaul. However, the updates are going to make it more attractive and appealing. The crossover comes with an 8.8-inch infotainment screen at the center of the dashboard. Optionally, BMW offers a larger screen for higher trim levels. The hybrid model is getting some unique upgrades, such as leather upholstery, contrast stitching, or floor mats. Infotainment system brings Apple CarPlay as the standard feature, and navigation is optional.

2020 BMW X1 Hybrid Autonomous Drive

Evolving of the 2020 BMW X1 Hybrid to the fully-electric crossover is going to bring other changes as well. BMW is planning to launch a Level 4 autonomous drive. These self-driving systems will ask for a minimum intervention by the driver. However, it is not as easy as that. The X1 Hybrid might get some of the entry-level equipment, such as automatic braking, or self-parking equipment. Cruise control, lane departure warning, and blind-spot alert are still optional features.

2020 BMW X1 Hybrid Release Date and Price

A hybrid version of the subcompact crossover is already out in China. In Europe, the 2020 BMW X1 Hybrid will be out by the end of this year. The vehicle is coming to the US shores next March. The company did not release any details about the price. With the base model being priced around $35,000, most experts think the Hybrid model will cost around $40,000.
