2020 BMW X1 Changes, Release date

The 2020 BMW X1 is about to come with a palette of interesting changes. Compared to the original model, the current second generation looks, feels and rides much better. It is definitely one of the best subcompact crossovers around, praised for not just great driving dynamics but for lots of practicalities as well. For example, this model offers the class-leading cargo volume, which definitely isn’t something you would expect from a vehicle with this badge. The company wants to keep this position on the market, so there is an update about to come.

The 2020 BMW X1 will come with a fine number of novelties. First of all, there is a new look, which will include changes in several areas. Also, count on changes on the inside, such as new infotainment screen and few more additions. Finally, new powertrain options seem possible as well. Considering the update, the launch will probably be scheduled for some earlier date than usual. Most likely, this crossover will hit the market sometime in the third quarter of the year.

2020 BMW X1 Redesign

Despite lots of changes, the 2020 BMW X1 will keep base characteristics familiar. This model rides on the company’s familiar UKL2 platform and, unlike the original model, features front-wheel-drive layout. However, such design doesn’t stop this crossover to be one of the most exciting models in the class to drive.
The next year won’t bring changes in mechanics. On the other side, we count on a fine amount of visual updates. The testing model has been spotted and it seems easy to notice which areas will suffer, judging on the camouflage. Of course, most of them will come at front. The 2020 BMW X1 will feature new front fascia. Some tweaks are expected to the front bumper as well. When it comes to headlights, count on the same shape, but different design on the inside. The opposite end of the vehicle will also get a couple of novelties. The most notable will be on the rear bumper, which is about to come with some minor reshapings. Count on a new exhaust as well. Some revisions to the taillights and tailgate are possible too.
Rest of the crossover will probably remain the same. Still, count on those typical updates, in terms of new color options, new wheels designs etc.

2020 BMW X1 Interior

The cabin of 2020 BMW X1 will also come with a couple of changes. The most important ones will be at the center stack, where we are about to see a new touchscreen, along with a few more tweaks. There is also a possibility to see a new digital instrument cluster, probably offered as optional. Rest of the cabin will probably remain the same, which is definitely a good thing. This is one of the best cabins in the segment, for many reasons.

When it comes to interior quality, most materials feature excellent quality. Soft-touch surfaces are all around the cabin. Only the most basic trim comes with simulated leather upholstery, while the rest of the lineup is characterized by genuine leather. Seats are massive and supportive. Surprisingly, rear seats aren’t that tight at all. Two adult persons can accommodate pretty comfortable. Keep in mind that we are talking about a subcompact crossover.

Another strong point of this small SUV is cargo area. Surprisingly for something that wears “BMW’ badge, this crossover features the biggest cargo area in the class. You can count on more than 27 cubic feet behind rear seats, while the overall capacity goes up to pretty impressive 59 cubic feet.

The list of standard tech features will be impressive as well. As we already mentioned, there is a new touchscreen to come, while the list of potential new standard features includes things like Wi-Fi hot spot, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system, advanced smartphone integration like Apple CarPlay etc.

2020 BMW X1 Engines

Currently, the X1 comes with several engines in the offer. Unfortunately, the North American version comes with only one. It is a well-known 2.0-liter turbo-four, which delivers around 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, which is an amount of power that makes it one of the quickest crossovers in the segment. This small crossover needs around 6.5 seconds to get to 60 mph. For the 2020 BMW X1, there is a chance to see a hybrid version in the offer as well. It should be the same system that powers the version for the Chinese market, which is based on a three-cylinder 1.5-liter gasoline engine. It is a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a total amount of power of around 220 hp and 285 pound-feet of torque. Also, it comes with a 10.7-kWh battery, which provides an all-electric range of around 37 miles.
