The new generation of the Bavarian compact crossover has been around for more than a year and the 2020 BMW X3 will represent the third production year of the current model. Usually, we wouldn’t expect to see many changes in such a short period, but the next year is definitely about to bring one huge novelty. According to the latest reports, the hi-performance M version will be ready to hit the market pretty soon. It will offer lots of modifications over the standard model, not just a more powerful engine, but tons of other modifications as well. This refers both to mechanical upgrades and lots of distinctive styling details, as well as on a unique list of standard equipment.
On the other side, standard models should carry on in the same way. Count on a familiar design and features. Of course, some typical novelties like new colors more standard equipment seems possible.
2020 BMW X3 M
The most important novelty for the 2020 BMW X3 will be a new hi-performance version. The new model has been spotted on testings and lots of novelties can be noticed quite easily. Of course, the central spot is reserved for a new engine. According to the latest reports, this crossover will borrow the engine from the new M3 model. That would mean a tuned version of a familiar 3.0-liter inline-six. Most reports suggest that a max output will between 450 and 470 horsepower.
Besides new engine, the 2020 BMW X3 M will come with mechanical modifications as well. Of course, count on all those upgrades typical for “M” badged models and that includes things like new suspension, brakes, chassis reinforcements and much more. Naturally, there will be many visual upgrades as well. Count on a completely new body kit, new wheels, exhaust system and much more. The cabin will also be full of unique details, including a new instrument cluster and much more.
2020 BMW X3 Redesign
On the other side, standard models will continue in the same way. We are about to see a familiar layout. The new model rides on the company’s new CLAR platform, which has brought a lot of improvements in terms of ride quality. The new model is more efficient as well. Of course, there is also a new styling, which follows the company’s latest styling philosophy. At the front, you will notice a well-known kidney grille, which is now a little bit more angular. The rest of the vehicle comes in a typical SUV manner. A good thing about this model is that the roof line is pretty flat and that it ends with almost vertical tailgate, which provides spacious and useful cargo area.
The cabin will also continue in the same way. It is well-built, but many will complain about its dashboard design, which is rather simplistic, let’s say pretty blend. Still, that doesn’t change the fact that all materials are soft on touch and feature hi-grade quality. Seats are massive and supportive, excellent for long trips. Despite we are talking about a compact crossover, there is a pretty fine amount of legroom in both rows. The rear bench is quite decent. This crossover can accommodate up to five passengers, but four adults seem like a perfect measure. The cargo area is pretty generous, one of the biggest in the segment. You can count on 29 cubic feet behind rear seats and 63 cubic feet of overall capacity.
The list of standard equipment is quite impressive as well. Base models feature things like a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a USB port, a 12-speaker audio system etc. Features like a panoramic moonroof, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, satellite radio, navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless device charging, and Apple CarPlay are also available.
2020 BMW X3 Engines
We have no doubt that two familiar units will carry on for the next year. Base models will feature a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that delivers around 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This is definitely enough power for decent performances. It also marks some of the best fuel economy ratings in the class, around 23 mpg in the class and 30 mpg on the highway.
If you want something model powerful, a familiar 3.0-liter inline-six will be in the offer as well. It delivers around 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with 8-speed automatic transmission.
2020 BMW X3 Release Date and Price
The 2020 BMW X3 will probably hit the market sometime late in the year. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect to see bigger changes compared to the current model, which starts at around 41.000 dollars. Competition in the segment is pretty tough. Some of the best models in the class are crossovers like Acura RDX, Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class etc.
