2020 BMW X6 Spy shots, Release date, M

After an early redesign of the company’s basic mid-size crossover X5, we are expecting 2020 BMW X6 to go in the same way. The famous coupe-like crossover has established a completely new segment in the car industry and it’s getting more and more competitors in these days. Considering that fact, and the fact that the new X5 is ready, this redesign seems natural.

The new model will come with a lot of novelties. Of course, the core will be new CLAR platform, which will provide better driving dynamics, but other benefits as well. Of course, there is a new styling to come, as well as new interior design. Once again, we will see a lot of influence from the X5. When it comes to the powertrain, we will see familiar engines under the hood, though with a nice power increase. Expect to see the new model next year.

2020 BMW X6 Redesign

The basis of the 2020 BMW X6 will be the company’s new CLAR platform. The new architecture has been introduced in some models already and it will soon have its premiere in the next-generation X5 as well. Compared to the previous generation, we will see a lot of benefits. Of course, the focus is on driving dynamics, so it’s no wonder that everyone expects to see some nice weight savings. Besides weight reduction, the new model will be characterized by changes in dimensions.

The new platform brings a 2-inch increase of the wheelbase, which should have a positive effect on the interior space. However, some reports suggest the 2020 X6 will feature less cargo room compared to the outgoing model.

Finally, the new model should be more off-road capable, thanks to the introduction of a new “Off-Road” package, which should come with the same upgrades as for the X5 model.

Another important novelty for the 2020 BMW X6 will be a new “Off-Road” package. This version will come with a lot of upgrades compared to the current model. Of course, there will be some visual upgrade in terms of underbody protection and similar things, but the core will be a new 4×4 system. This version will get a completely new adjustable air suspension, as well as a new-generation locking differential. Of course, expect to see several advanced systems that will be of a great help on hard terrains. One of them will be selectable drive modes, so you will be able to choose different types of ride, depending on the surface and other driving conditions.

2020 BMW X6 Styling

When it comes to styling, the new 2020 BMW X6 will definitely look sportier compared to the current model. It will be longer and wider, but also sleeker. This company, as well as most German manufacturers, has been known for its conservative approach in terms of styling. We can expect the same from this crossover as well. Basically, the front end will be the same as on the new X5. This would mean a bunch of subtle changes, while the core will remain the same. In practice, this would mean that the familiar kindle grille will remain, with only minor revision. Same goes for headlights, which will be slightly slimmer. Of course, bodywork will be completely new and it will include new bumpers, side skirts etc. On the other side, the rear end will continue in X6’s recognizable manner. A sloping roof shape shouldn’t be changed a lot.

Another aspect where we expect 2020 BMW X6 to mimic the new X5. According to some reports, these two models will be around 95% identical. This would mean a new dashboard layout, which relies on digital controls and large 12.3 screens. Also, there is a new instrument cluster, with a 5-inch display as well. The thing that will characterize new 2020 BMW X6’s cabin is new, higher-quality materials. Considering that the new model will be slightly bigger, we expect to see more space on the inside as well, through various reports actually suggest less cargo volume. We should see a slightly raised level of comfort. Speaking of the comfort, there is a new sunroof design to come. On the other side, the bad thing is that the company’s not so convenient infotainment system won’t get any bigger change.

2020 BMW X6 Engines

Under the hood, we will see two familiar mills. Base 2020 BMW X6 will continue with a familiar inline-six twin-turbo. This unit has a displacement of 3.0 liters and it will get a nice power increase. The new version will have a max output of 340 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque.

An optional V8 will also get a power boost, but not so big. This 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 will now feature around 462 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Both engines will use the same 8-speed automatic transmission.

Outside the U.S. the 2020 BMW X6 will be available with diesel engines too. There are two units of this kind in the offer. The first one is a 3.0-liter straight-six, which delivers around 265 horsepower. The other one is a large V8, with a max power of probably around 400 horses.

Finally, expect to see a hi-performance M version in the future, probably for the 2021-year model.

2020 BMW X6 Release Date and Price

The 2020 BMW X6 is expected to come sometime in the next year. However, we are still waiting for more detailed information. When it comes to the price, there is no reason why the new model shouldn’t keep the same or similar price range. The current version starts at 63.000, while top models go over 100.000 dollars.

2020 BMW X6 Competition

At the time it originally came, in 2007, it was the only coupe-like crossover at the market. Nowadays, you can find a bunch of similar models, which are seen as potential competitors. Of course, the biggest rival is Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, which offers a little bit more luxury, but lacks in terms of driving dynamics. Another potential rival is the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Coupe, which will also get a similar body style. Of course, other mid-size crossovers could be seen as competitors, so consider models like Maserati Levante, Range Rover Velar etc.
