The new, second generation of this subcompact crossover is about to come next year, with a bunch of novelties. This tiny SUV has been around since 2012, so this redesign is pretty much expected. Though still under a camouflage, there are already some details about the new model that is pretty much certain.
The new 2020 Buick Encore will get a new platform and adopt the brand’s new design language. This will definitely make the crossover more competitive. Also, expect to see a new turbo gasoline engine in the offer, as well as numerous new design solutions on the inside. We still don’t know the details about the release date but it seems pretty much for sure that the new model will come in the second half of the next year.
2020 Buick Encore Redesign
The current Opel Mokka-based model will come with significant changes after this redesign. Many of details are yet to be announced. Still, we are pretty sure in some of the new things that should come. There is no doubt that the new 2020 Buick Encore will adopt GM’s new architecture, which comes with a little bit confusing designation. It should be called VSS and it comes in two variants – F and C. The first one is for the FWD layout while the latter one is for crossovers. This model meets both of these designation things so we are not sure how to call this new platform. Anyway, it will bring a lot of improvement, especial in terms of driving dynamics. The new model will be lighter and also with a new suspension set that will provide a better overall driving experience.
2020 Buick Encore Styling
In terms of styling, we expect to see a lot of changes. Buick tries to become a genuine luxury brand again, so we have seen some interesting design solutions in past years. The original Encore features pretty rounded shape, same as Opel Mokka. On the other side, a last-year facelift has brought a lot of sharpy elements, which is a pretty common thing among mainstream cars. Finally, the new generation is about to adopt the brand’s newest design philosophy, which you can see on new models like LaCrosse and the new Enclave. This includes a lot of sleek lines, instead of a sharp approach. Definitely, another try to come closer to the premium segment.
All in all, we won’t see some radical changes in terms of overall design. The new 2020 Buick Encore will keep pretty much the same shape, with significant changes on the sheet metal, but similar proportions. On the inside, expect to see a completely new layout. It is still early to speak about something more specific, but the new crossover will definitely come with improvements in terms of material quality and styling, as well as with more tech features.
2020 Buick Encore Engine
The current generation of this crossover comes with a 1.4-liter turbo inline-four gasoline engine. It comes in two variants, with either 138 or 153 horsepower. For the second-generation model, we will probably see the same engine in the offer. Considering the fact that Buick wants to compete with premium brands, however, we expect to see a significant power boost. What will this mean in practice, it is hard to say at the moment, but some reports suggest a max output of more than 200 horsepower. Besides new version of the engine, the 2020 Buick Encore should come with a completely new 9-speed transmission, co-developed with Ford. A new combination should provide also a better fuel economy, which in the current model goes up to 27 mpg in city and 33 mpg on a highway.
The new model could also come with some electrified powertrain. A new hybrid version sounds likely, especially if we consider company’s aspiration to the Chinese market. To remind you, this country has one of the most ambitious plans when it comes to CO2 emissions reduction.
2020 Buick Encore Release Date and Price
The new 2020 Buick Encore will come next year, probably in the second half. A more precise date should be known in the future. When it comes to the price, we expect no bigger changes compared to the current model, which goes in a range between 23.000 and 33.000 dollars, roughly.
2020 Buick Encore Competition
The current generation is still considered more like a mainstream crossover. So, its biggest rivals at the moment are models like Mazda CX-3 or Toyota C-HR. The second-generation model will try to go more upscale and to compete with premium models like BMW X1, Volvo XC40, Infiniti QX30, Mercedes Benz GLA Class, Audi Q3 and similar models.
