The 2020 Cadillac XT6 is a new player in the town. GM’s premium branch is expanding its lineup after the success of the compact XT5. Still, Escalade is the largest and the model that comes with all the novelties the company prepares. Still, the XT6 doesn’t lack premium touches. Its design, interior, and exterior, is exceptional. We will get the latest info- and entertaining features. It might lack some range since the SUV is using only one engine. But, for the first edition, it will be enough. In the future, we could see a hybrid and performance-tuned versions.
This is the third XT- SUV. After XT5 the company developed smaller XT4. The 2020 Cadillac XT6 will take the position between the compact model and Escalade. A three-row premium mid-size SUV will compete with likes of BMW X5 and Audi Q7. German carmakers are present on the market for a while, so it will be a tough challenge to keep the pace with them. But, General Motors is ready to expand the lineup since more and more buyers are interested in these vehicles.
2020 Cadillac XT6 Specs
The 2020 Cadillac XT6 will use a 3.6-liter V6 engine. A lot of GM’s vehicles are using it, and one of them is the high-end XT5. A nine-speed automatic transmission is revisited and it boosts gas mileage. Electronic precision shift feature is standard, as well as Active Fuel Management technology. To boost fuel economy, this system is shutting or activating two cylinders to save some gasoline. The total output of the engine is 310 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque.
Engineers prepared two kinds of drives for the 2020 Cadillac XT6. Drivers can set Sport mode for the more aggressive ride, or Premium for quitter cabin. Total towing capacity of the SUV is 4,000 pounds. We can clearly say this is the major lack of the new model since its biggest rivals are offering much better hauling capabilities. BMW X5 is rated at 6,500 pounds, while the Audi Q7 loads up to 7,700 lbs.
The new SUV is not going to offer a hybrid drivetrain, that is for sure. Still, GM will have to speed up the development of the engine strong enough to keep up with growing competition in this segment. Before we see a hybrid model, engineers will launch a performance-oriented version. We still can’t find clues, but some rumors are mentioning a V8 engine. Escalade is using a 6.2-liter unit, but the XT6 could get a 5.3-liter drivetrain.
2020 Cadillac XT6 Interior, Exterior
Some thought that 2020 Cadillac XT6 is replacing Escalade SUV. Well, the new model is smaller than the legendary vehicle. The XT6 will be 199 inches long and 69 in high. Width is 66 inches. Under the body, there are 6.65 in ground clearance. The SUV is not made for off-roading. That is another thing the XT6 falls short compared to main rivals.
The good part is that the new model picked up some features from the Escala concept. A brand-new design will be interesting and eye-catching. It combines sporty and premium appearance. Still, the front grille is somehow familiar, with unique details. Buyers will choose between Sport and Premium Luxury trim levels in XT6’s first editions.
The safety is on the highest level, even for the luxury section. Rear-view camera with a 360-degree turn and HD signal is very helpful. Alert and assist equipment is extended compared to a smaller XT5 crossover. Pedestrian braking and front collision warning are standard. Optional equipment is also interesting. Advanced features, such as rear camera mirror or night vision are available. Still, the main features are coming as a standard offer.
An eight-inch display is sitting at the center of the dashboard. Although packed with a lot of items, the design of the cabin is very clean and simple. You will need some time to gel with the layout. Premium materials are used for the cockpit. Still, genuine leather is there for high-end Premium Luxury trim. The 2020 Cadillac XT6 is large enough to offer three rows of seats. Although passengers in rear row are not going to have too much space, it is the case with rivals. Still, the XT6 will come with less cargo space compared to BMW X5 and Audi Q7.
When Will 2020 Cadillac XT6 Be Available?
The new 2020 Cadillac XT6 had a premiere at the latest NAIAS show. Of course, General Motors will send their new premium SUV to dealerships closer to 2020 season. Sales will start in autumn. Also, the company still need to release the pricing list for the new SUV. From what we can conclude, the initial price will be around $60,000. It is between XT5 and Escalade, and on par with its main rivals. Still, upper Premium Luxury trim will go up. With additional safety and other features, this version will cost over $70,000, and maybe even more expensive than the entry-level Escalade full-size SUV ($75,000).
