One of the most iconic nameplates in the automotive industry is getting ready for the new redesign, which is set for the next year when we are about to see a brand-new 2020 Chevrolet Suburban. This full-size SUV has been around for decades and we have seen numerous versions of it.
The current model is present since 2013. Thought as successful as its predecessors, the company prepares a redesign. The next-generation model is about to bring a lot of novelties. Of course, the focus is on a new platform, but there will be much more than that. The new styling seems to be in development still since the test model wears a complete camouflage. Also, we are about to see some interesting new technologies, as well as few novelties under the hood. Finally, 2020 Suburban will get an independent rear suspension for the first time.
2020 Chevrolet Suburban platform
The first novelty for 2020 Chevrolet Suburban that we would like to mention is a new platform. The famous SUV will get a new GM T1 architecture, which had its premiere in the new Silverado. Many parts will be shared with these two models, just like it was the case before. The new platform brings a lot of benefits. Of course, weight savings are in focus. Many parts are now made of aluminum, instead of steel, so it’s no wonder that the new 2020 Chevrolet Suburban is expected to be for about 300 lighter. Along with the new suspension, this saving will provide better driving dynamics and overall driving experience. Of course, there is a new styling to come.
2020 Chevrolet Suburban styling
The testing model of the new 2020 Chevrolet Suburban is already on the road. However, it wears a complete camouflage, so we can’t say more details about the SUV. Still, there is no doubt that the overall shape will remain pretty much the same. Also, the front end should adopt the brand’s new design language, which we have seen at the recent premiere of 2019 Silverado. Front ends of these two vehicles should look pretty close, though 2020 Suburban will surely get some of the unique details.
On the inside, it will get a brand-new cabin. The overall layout should be similar to the new Silverado, though we expect to be more comfort-oriented. Of course, it will be more spacious, but the new cabin will also feature hi-quality materials, as well as some of the latest tech features.
2020 Chevrolet Suburban to get a new GM Super Cruise autonomous self-driving technology
One of the most interesting novelties for 2020 Chevrolet Suburban will be the installment of GM Super Cruise system. It is a system designed for highway driving. It uses cameras and various sensors to provide steering and braking. The system is fully capable of full-speed-range adaptive cruise control and lane centering. The new system was introduced in the new Chevy Bolt EV, as well as in some vehicles from other GM brands.
2020 Chevrolet Suburban independent rear suspension
The testing model wears such heavy camouflage than engineers from Chevy tried even to camouflage suspensions. However, our dexterous photographers managed to get the photos that clearly show an independent rear suspension on this model. Of course, this feature will bring several benefits, providing both better handling and comfort for the passengers. Most likely, this suspension will be an optional feature.
2020 Chevrolet Suburban engines
Most likely, the new 2020 Chevrolet Suburban will be available in three engine variants. The most interesting novelty will be a new 2.7-liter turbo inline-four, which is good for about 310 horses and 350 pound-feet of torque. This will be the first time Suburban to use a four-cylinder engine. It should come paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Other two units are pretty familiar. The first one is a 5.3-liter V8 engine, with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. This one will also use a familiar 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Finally, there is a mighty 6.2-liter V8 unit, which is good for about 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Unlike other engines, this one will probably come with a new 10-speed automatic gearbox.
2020 Chevrolet Suburban release date and price
The 2020 Chevrolet Suburban should come in the first half of the next year, along with a short-wheelbase version called Tahoe. We don’t expect bigger changes in price, so base models should go around 50.000 dollars.
On the other side, the top-range version will go much higher. Competition is pretty familiar. There are models like the Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, Nissan Armada, as well as GMC Yukon XL.
