There’s no doubt that this subcompact crossover is about to come redesigned soon. The testing model has been spotted on the road. However, it looks like the new model won’t be ready for the next year and that the 2020 Chevy Trax will represent the last production year of the current, first generation. This crossover has been riding since 2012 and it still competes pretty well in this crowded segment. Of course, there was a mid-cycle update a couple of years ago, so the model still looks quite fresh.

Considering that the 2020 Chevy Trax is about to be the last year model of the current generation, we are pretty sure that more important changes won’t come. It will continue in the same way, with familiar design characteristics. This means a familiar Gamma II platform, which is in use for a whole palette of GM’s subcompact models. In terms of the styling, this crossovers has been updated two years ago. The facelift included various kinds of changes, most at front. We saw a completely new face, with new headlights, grille, bumper and much more. Thanks to all these changes, the Trax still looks quite attractive, despite the age. 2020 Chevy Trax Interior
On the inside, this is pretty much a typical subcompact crossover. This refers both to the interior space and the overall quality. When it comes to the interior space, fronts seats are quite comfortable and feature plenty of room for adjustments. On the other side, the rear bench is typical for the class. Formally, a five-seater, the Trax actually fits perfect for four adult passengers. When it comes to the cargo area, you can count on 19 cubic feet behind rear seats and 48 cubic feet of overall cargo space. You can definitely find some more spacious models, but these are also quite average numbers for the class.
When it comes to the dashboard and overall interior quality, things are once again pretty much average for the class. Some parts are pretty soft on touch, but most of them are hard plastics. The Trax looks okay from the inside, though there are several rivals that look more upscale. Actually, the biggest complaint goes for the cabin’s practicality, as there aren’t many small storage compartments around.

When it comes to standard equipment, base models are fairly well equipped and the 2020 Chevy Trax should come without bigger changes. Therefore, count on the pretty much same list of standard tech features. It would include things like 7-inch touch-screen display, six-speaker audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, two USB ports. Of course, you can count on much more in higher trims, on tech goodies like a sunroof, satellite radio, seven-speaker Bose audio system and more.
In terms of safety features, the current generation definitely doesn’t shine. A rear view camera is the only standard safety feature. The list of available features also isn’t spectacular, but still includes the essentials like blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, lane departure warning etc. It is also important to mention that this crossover earned five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
2020 Chevy Trax Engines
The overall ride experience of the current generation is probably its weakest point. It is neither fast nor economic. It also doesn’t handle pretty good. The engine offer largely depends on the market. In North America, it comes with a 1.4-liter turbo inline-four unit, which is good for about 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. As we already mentioned, fuel economy isn’t spectacular. You can count on 25 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Most rivals can do better.
The 2020 Chevy Trax will continue with different engines in some other parts of the world. There are two familiar gasoline units, with 1.4 and 1.8 liters in displacement, with max outputs of 115 and 140 horses, respectively. Also, there is a well-known 1.7-liter diesel engine, which in this case delivers around 130 horsepower.
