2020 Dodge Durango SRT, Redesign, Price

Nothing is for sure with FCA in these days, so we will take with a dose of reserve those reports that suggest soon discontinuation of this crossover. Most likely, the 2020 Dodge Durango will come. However, we don’t expect to see any change on it. This mid-size SUV is aging slowly, but it isn’t that old at the moment. It originally came seven years ago, in 2011. Meanwhile, we saw one major update, so we can’t say that it is outdated. In any way, a familiar design should carry over in next year or two. We will see a familiar approach, which tries to cover various kind of customers requirements. So, you will once have in the offer a wide range of models that goes from very basic version to hi-performance V8 units. Expect 2020 Durango to arrive sometime late in the next year.

2020 Dodge Durango redesign

When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2020 Dodge Durango will come with well-known specs. This model borrows an old architecture from Mercedes, which is some kind of a drawback in these days, especially in terms of driving dynamics, where this crossover lacks compared to competition. When it comes to styling, we will be seeing a familiar face, designed in Dodge’s recognizable manner. Still, some reports suggest a mild update for this occasion. If this happen, the 2020 Dodge Durango will probably get some novelties in terms of new plastic surfaces on the grille and other areas, and probably few new color options. More than that, we won’t see for sure. This will probably be a farewell song from a model that should be replaced by Chrysler’s brand new luxury crossover.

Another aspect where we don’t expect to see anything more important. The 2020 Dodge Durango will come with a familiar cabin layout. While the base model accommodates five passengers, rest of the lineup add the third row of seating and can carry up to seven people. It offers plenty of legroom, even in the third row. The cargo area is also pretty generous. Thanks to the model’s boxy shape, you can count not only on great volume but also on pretty deep cargo area, which can accommodate pretty large objects thanks to its rectangular shape. When it comes to materials quality, this models is somewhere in the middle, compared to other models in the class. On the other side, you can count on plenty of tech features, but most competitors offer more.

2020 Dodge Durango safety

On pretty much all crash tests, this model received the highest score, so we can say that 2020 Dodge Durango will be a pretty safe SUV. However, it lacks in terms of advanced safety and driver-assist features. For example, a rearview came is the only standard feature in the base model. Things like including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rain-sensing wipers are available in higher trims, but this requires a lot of additional costs.

2020 Dodge Durango trim level

A great thing about this model is that you have a pretty wide choice of different versions. The base SXT model comes with standard features like 18-inch wheels, 7-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, heated mirrors, three-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, 6-speaker sound system etc. Seems like a pretty decent list for a base model.

The next one is called GT. It includes all the above, but also adds few interesting things. Some of the highlights are heated seats and steering wheel, driver memory settings, 20-inch wheels, satellite radio etc. Besides more equipment, this version also comes with several visual enhancements.

If you need more luxury and convenience, the Citadel trim would be a perfect choice for you. This model comes with leather upholstery, bigger 8.4-inch touchscreen, HD radio, power adjustable and ventilated front seats, premium audio system and much more.

Despite all additional features, both GT and Citadel models stay on the V6 engine. The real fun starts with the famous R/T trim. With this one, you can count on a V8 engine, as well as on LED headlights, chassis upgrades like sporty suspension, visual enhancements and much more.

If you want something really extreme, here is an SRT trim, which comes with even bigger engine and even more chassis upgrades.

2020 Dodge Durango engines

The current model comes with three engines in the offer and 2020 Dodge Durango should continue in the same way. Base models will feature a familiar 3.6-liter V6 unit, which is good for about 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The next one is a familiar 5.7-liter Hemi engine, which is good for about 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. Although it provides plenty of power, such large displacement has a very bad effect on fuel economy. So, the company tried to make up the things by installing a new cylinder-deactivation technology. This system usually works on a highway, when cruising at a constant speed.

Finally, there is a huge 6.4-liter Hemi V8 unit, which is good for about 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. All engines received a new 8-speed automatic transmission a few years ago.

On the other side, the performance version easily goes two times more. For example, a top-range SRT model costs around 62.000 dollars.

2020 Dodge Durango competition

This segment is highly competitive and full of quality mid-size crossovers. Some of the class-leaders are models like Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Kia Sorento, Buick Enclave etc. The Durango’s biggest advantage is that none of them has a hi-performance version.
