2020 Ford Escape Spy shots, Hybrid, Release

The next-generation 2020 Ford Escape entered the late stage of development so it’s no wonder that we have seen the test model several times in last few months. There have been three generations of crossovers under this name so far. However, the current model is the first globally-oriented Escape, while the first two generations were designed especially for North America.

The current model adopted the design of the European Kuga, and the upcoming model will continue in the same way. Two crossovers will once again feature completely same mechanics, styling, and much more. The new generation will come with a bunch of improvements. Of course, we will see a new styling, but improved driving experience as well. Some of the notable novelties will be a new engine lineup, which will include several small but highly efficient engines. The 2020 Escape will hit the market probably in the first half of 2019.

2020 Ford Escape Gets a New Platform

Though the styling is always the first thing we notice on redesigned models, the new platform is actually far more important. While the look is the things that sales a specific model, ride quality is something that will make the buyer to keep and drive the vehicle for years. For this occasion, the famous American manufacturer has to offer a new modular platform. This platform made its debut in new Focus. It is a classic FWD architecture, which brings several improvements compared to the outgoing model. The chassis is completely new and it is not only lighter, but also offers better torsion and rigidity. All this should provide far better ride quality. The new 2020 Ford Escape is expected to grow for a bit. We will see a slight wheelbase extension, which will provide a more spacious cabin, so appreciated in these days in the automotive industry.

2020 Ford Escape Styling

The 2020 Ford Escape will come with a brand-new look. It will adopt the brand’s newest design language, which means a lot in common with the new Focus. Moreover, these two models should feature pretty much the same front end. We saw on the new Focus that the new front end comes with subtle changes. Though a grille looks familiar, it is actually a little bit reshaped. Headlights are completely new, with a new shape, which seems to be not so sharp, like it is the case with the previous generation. The front bumper contrasts slightly rounded grille and headlights. It comes with plenty of sharp angles, especially in foglight and air-intake areas. The new 2020 Ford Escape should feature similar layout, though we could see a little bit of a bumper reshape, to suit better to a crossover vehicle.

2020 Ford Escape rear view

Rest of the crossover should keep familiar proportions, though we already said that the new model will feature a longer wheelbase. On the rear end, we expect to see taillights similar to ones on new Focus, though the whole cargo is should be more massive, in order to provide more cargo volume.

2020 Ford Escape Interior

The interior design is another part of the 2020 Ford Escape that will come with plenty of novelties. We can presume that the cabin look will be similar to one that can be found inside the new Focus, once again. This would mean a pretty familiar layout. The cabin of new Focus is full of subtle changes but remains quite close to the previous generation in overall. Of course, a longer wheelbase provides more legroom, especially for rear passengers, and we will see the same benefit in the 2020 Ford Escape also. Besides more room, the new generation will improve the materials quality. Of course, this primarily refers to dashboard and center console plastics, which should be a little bit better compared to the previous generation.

In terms of the dashboard design, the company won’t make any radical change. The new one will keep a similar proportion, though with a little bit tweaked lines. Of course, it will be highlighted with the new tablet-like touchscreen, but also with new air vents, more attractive cluster etc. As we expected, the 2020 Ford Escape will insist on complete control digitalization, but rather keep a big share of analog buttons at the center console, especially when it comes to climate controls and similar things.

2020 Ford Escape Engines

The engine lineup of 2020 Ford Escape should be the same as for the new Focus. This means a bunch of gasoline engines, mostly small and efficient. The smallest unit in the offer should be a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo engine, which in its base version delivers 85 horsepower. However, we doubt that this variant will be in the offer for the new crossover. More likely, we will see a version with 100 horsepower as the base engine. Also, this unit comes in a variant with 125 horses, which seems like a perfect measure for an average driver.

Of course, there is a bigger 1.5-liter EcoBoost unit in the offer as well. This engine also comes in two output variants, with either 150 or 180 horsepower. All versions will feature either 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission.

On some market, like Europe and Australia, the next-generation model will also come in diesel variants. There are two EcoBlue engines in the offer. The first one has a displacement of 1.5 liters and delivers around 120 horsepower.

The second one is a 2.0-liter unit, which is good for about 150 horses.

2020 Ford Escape Could Get a Hybrid Powertrain

Since the company plans to introduce 24 hybrid and plug-in hybrid models over the next five years, we are pretty sure that this crossover will also get an electrified version. The first two generation was available in hybrid variants, but the new model should get a far more serious powertrain. Most likely, it will be a plug-in hybrid. It should feature not only a good economy and plenty of power but also a solid all-electric range.

2020 Ford Escape Release Date and Price

The next-generation 2020 Ford Escape could have its premiere late in this year. On the other side, sales should start in the first half of 2019. We don’t expect bigger changes in price, so base models should go around 24.000 dollars. Competition in this segment is pretty tough. Some of the rivals are Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Kia Sportage, Subaru Forester etc.
