The current generation of this full-size SUV has been around for a couple of years and it looks like the 2020 Ford Expedition will come without more important changes. We are about to see a familiar design approach, which made this SUV a class leader in many aspects. The current generation came recently, as we’ve mentioned, and it benefits from the new F-150 in many ways. Of course, this primarily refers to the efficiency, which is by far the best in class.
While other models are heavy and thirsty, this one comes not just with significant weight savings, but with a super-efficient V6 engine as well. All in all, we are pretty sure that the 2020 Ford Expedition won’t feature any important change. The biggest rival, Chevy Tahoe is coming completely new this year, so we are pretty sure that Ford will wait to see how the new Tahoe looks like, and only after that, we can expect to see updates.
2020 Ford Expedition Redesign
In terms of both base design characteristics and aesthetics, the 2020 Ford Expedition will remain the same. This generation has been introduced a couple of years ago. It rides on a, now, familiar T3 platform, which has been originally introduced a with the legendary F-150 truck. Benefits from the new architecture are numerous. Most importantly, this model is much lighter compared to the previous generation. In practice, this means not just better efficiency, but improved driving characteristics as well.
In terms of the styling, the 2020 Ford Expedition will continue in the same way. The current generation is based on the company’s latest design language. The front end looks pretty similar to the F-150, while the rest of the vehicle features typical wagon body style. The best we can see for the next year is a couple of new color options.
2020 Ford Expedition Interior
Same goes for the interior design. The first thing you’ll notice about this SUV is a very spacious cabin, which definitely is no wonder, considering it gains 3.5 inches with the last redesign, both in terms of wheelbase and overall length. Benefits from such size are obvious. All rows are spacious and comfortable, including the third one which can also easily accommodate adult passengers. The cargo area is generous as well. You can count on 20.6 cubic feet behind the third row and almost 105 cubic feet of overall cargo volume.
Things are event better with the stretched XL version, which features 36 cubic feet behind the third row and 120 cubic feet of overall cargo space.
When it comes to the interior quality, this SUV really sets new standards in the segment. Despite the fact that we are talking about a truck-based vehicle, even the most basic versions are full of quality, soft-touch materials. In higher trims, you can count on a pretty much same level of quality as in Lincoln models.
2020 Ford Expedition Tech and Safety Features
The biggest complaint about this SUV goes to the fact that base models aren’t that well equipped in terms of tech features. This particularly refers to the infotainment technology. Base models are equipped with a regular 4.2-inch screen, though you can count on things like four USB ports, Bluetooth, a six-speaker sound system, satellite radio. Things are much better in higher trims, where you can count on a large 8-inch touchscreen with the latest version of the company’s famous SYNC infotainment system, which is quick and very easy to use. Other notable available features are Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a navigation system, a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system, premium 12-speaker audio system and much more.
When it comes to safety, all Expedition models will be equipped with a rearview camera and rear parking sensors. On the other side, a list of available features is long and includes things like blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and many more.
2020 Ford Expedition Engine
Without any doubt, the 2020 Ford Expedition will continue with a familiar engine. Unlike most rivals, the Expedition comes with six cylinders, instead of eight. However, this is a very efficient engine, which provides plenty of power. It delivers around 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. In higher trims, you can count on a slight power boost, so a max output goes around 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. Besides plenty of power, you can also count on very good fuel economy, which goes around 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
2020 Ford Expedition Release Date and Price
Expect to see the 2020 Ford Expedition sometime late in the year. The price should remain the same, which means around 52.000 dollars for the base version.
