2020 Ford Explorer Spied, Hybrid, ST version

Ford is among the top players in the SUV and crossover segment beyond any question. The US car giant is now keen on revamping its SUV and vehicle portfolio for 2019. Furthermore, the 2019 Ford Explorer SUV will be also among them.

Introduced in the 1990s, it has received several makeovers and now the 5th generation car is being prepared for launch. Of late, the test prototype of upcoming Ford Explorer has been spied at several paces. As per the updates, the design of the SUV has been altered and some under the hood changes are also expected.

Chances are there the upcoming vehicle will be more lightweight owing to the usage of aluminum in the body. This is what Ford has done for its 2018 truck lineup- as it is. The SUV will be launched in some trims. The cabin may also receive a few changes including more cargo space and premium materials. It will have 3 rows of seats.

Some modern amenities may be made optional. It will get standard safety features like Advancetrac w/Roll Stability Control, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Safety Canopy System Curtain, Mykey System that includes Top Speed Limiter, Audio Volume Limiter, Early Low Fuel Warning.

The company will also launch a performance-oriented version of Explorer either in 2019 or 2020 as per updates. This version will be sold as the Explorer ST and it will be aimed at those who want a sporty big SUV with aggressive styling and superb performance. It may be introduced as a successor to the outgoing Explorer Sport. This is what Ford has done for the Edge SUV lineup.

The upcoming Ford Explorer may be laden with an enhanced powertrain. The engine will be equipped with Ford’s new 9-speed automatic transmission, co-developed with GM.

You can expect the new EcoBoost engines and a 3.5-liter Cyclone V6 unit. The rumor is Ford may actually offer a hybrid electric powertrain in the lineup later. Both AWD and 2WD may be on offer.

However, some of the speculations is that will get a good battery capacity that will be able to give great mileage.
