Introduced in the 1990s, it has received several makeovers and now the 5th generation car is being prepared for launch. The company will also launch a performance-oriented version of Explorer either in 2019 or 2020 as per updates. This version will be sold as the Explorer ST and it will be aimed at those who want a sporty big SUV with aggressive styling and superb performance. It may be introduced as a successor to the outgoing Explorer Sport. This is what Ford has done for the Edge SUV lineup.

The upcoming Ford Explorer may be laden with an enhanced powertrain. The engine will be equipped with Ford’s new 9-speed automatic transmission, co-developed with GM.

You can expect the new EcoBoost engines and a 3.5-liter Cyclone V6 unit. The rumor is Ford may actually offer a hybrid electric powertrain in the lineup later. Both AWD and 2WD may be on offer.
