2020 Honda HR-V Sport, Redesign, Turbo

The 2020 Honda HR-V will be the smallest crossover in the lineup. The Japanese company is paying more attention to its compact vehicles than big ones. Well, Pilot is the largest SUV, but the carmaker is not offering a full-size model. On the other hand, some interesting novelties are on the way for subcompact HR-V and compact CR-V. The hybrid engine is the major upgrade, but the smaller vehicle could go through the mid-cycle update next year.

Some would say that 85,000 units sold in 2018 is a bad record. But, only Chevy delivered more of its subcompact Trax models than Honda. For example, Ford sold 30,000 fewer EcoSport crossovers, while Toyota couldn’t achieve 50,000 with its C-HR. After the redesign, the 2020 Honda HR-V will be more interesting. New design, modern technologies, and features, possibly more space inside, will make buyers consider this subcompact vehicle. Honda plans to sell over 100k units in 2020. With the upgrades we expect, the mission is not impossible.

2020 Honda HR-V Specs

Under the hood of the 2020 Honda HR-V will be the same inline-four engine as before. A 1.8-liter displacement delivers only 140 hp and 130 lb-ft of torque. However, this is enough for the subcompact class. A CVT transmission is new and it works smoother than before. It improves the fuel economy, and the new HR-V will be able to return 31 mpg combined. The default setup is with front-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive consumes more fuel. In the city, the difference is only 1 mpg, while the AWD returns 3 miles per gallon less.

In other markets, the 2020 Honda HR-V will appear with a 1.5-liter engine. Also, the Japanese company could pair it with a five-speed manual transmission. There, a CVT is optional. This unit creates even less power – only 120 hp and 110 lb-ft of twist. However, it also consumes less fuel.

Turbo and Hybrid Drivetrains

Definitely, electric vehicles are the future of the automotive industry. Well, all-electric models are still expensive, but hybrid and plug-in hybrid systems are saving a lot of fuel. Also, electric support boosts overall efficiency. A conventional engine is taking less fuel, and it also emits fewer gasses. For a slightly higher price, buyers are getting a vehicle that pays off after a few years.

Whatsoever, Honda is not offering its smallest crossover with a hybrid drivetrain. A slightly larger vehicle, CR-V is presented in Europe and China. Next year, we will see it in the USA. Shortly after its debut, we expect similar news about the 2020 Honda HR-V. A 1.8 unit seems like a good start of hybridization. With it, the new crossover will be able to return more than 35 mpg combined.

On the other hand, Honda could go after the HR-V turbo to improve specs sheet. A 1.5-liter engine, with the help of turbochargers, can achieve 200+ horsepower. For young drivers that look for good output, this is going to be a perfect vehicle. Of course, the HR-V is also cheap compared to larger models.

2020 Honda HR-V Mid-Cycle Facelift

It’s been four years since the current generation of the crossover arrived. The speed of changes in this segment is incredible. Manufacturers used to refresh their models after 10 or more years. Now, every new edition needs improvements. Technology changes every day, and the look of the 2020 Honda HR-V must follow that. After five years, we will see the facelift of the subcompact vehicle. Changes on the front and rear fascia are going to improve aerodynamics. There will be also some surprises as well. Honda will continue to use wheels of the same size as before, with 18-inch rims available for special trim levels. Of course, the fresh design will draw attention.

Interior

We can’t expect anything spectacular from the subcompact vehicle. There is no too much space for designers to create a more comfortable interior. However, the new layout and seats will improve the overall impression. Of course, they will also revisit the infotainment system. A touchscreen display is the command center of it. Navigation remains optional, while Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard. The small vehicle will probably get a 7-inch touchscreen display again, while 8-inch is an option for higher trim levels. Leather is coming with  2020 Honda HR-V Touring model, as well as the more advanced audio system with more speakers. Roof rails and LED lights are exterior upgrades.

2020 Honda HR-V Release Date, Competition

The new 2020 Honda HR-V is coming early next year. By then, the company will announce changes for the upcoming crossover. We believe either hybrid or turbo engine will come alongside exterior redesign. HR-V is already the second best-selling subcompact crossover in the USA, and the carmaker will try to sell even more units. The competition is also bringing new models. Chevrolet Trax was the only better crossover if we compare sales. However, Toyota plans to redesign its C-HR. If you need a premium crossover, then you can check Mercedes-Benz GLA as a German representative, all-new Japanese Lexus UX, or the US-built Cadillac XT4.
