The Korean carmaker is a big name in the auto industry in these days, so it’s no wonder that its lineup is constantly growing. At the moment, it covers almost every segment of passenger cars and crossovers. The one that is missing is a flagship, full-size SUV. A few months ago, at the Busan Motor Show, Hyundai presented a concept of a full-size SUV, with the Grandmaster name.
At the moment, the name of the future production model is still unknown, so we will use this one. According to some reports, it could come pretty soon, in a year or two, as the 2020 Hyundai Grandmaster Full-Size SUV. At the moment, we can rely on the concept and its design, though the same changes will definitely come.
2020 Hyundai Grandmaster Design
First of all, we have to make things about base design characteristics clear. Although many refer to this concept as a full-size SUV, it actually comes with a car-like, unibody architecture. So, it would be more precise to call it a full-size crossover. The new model will use the same platform as full-size sedans G90 Genesis and Kia K900. Of course, we are about to see some modifications, usual for crossovers. Expect significant changes to the chassis, such as additional strengthening, or maybe even a longer wheelbase. In any case, most of the mechanics will be shared, including engine lineup.
2020 Hyundai Grandmaster Styling
Judging from the concept, it looks like the 2020 Hyundai Grandmaster will look very futuristic. The most notable thing about the concept was definitely the grill, which comes with a pretty unit pattern and overall design. Still, we presume that the upcoming production model will be a little bit more production friendly. So, we could see something closer to the new Santa Fe, which has been redesigned recently.
In terms of overall shape, these two models should feature similar shape, though the new 2020 Hyundai Grandmaster will be significantly bigger. Also, there is no doubt that we are going to see a lot of unique details. This will be a flagship model, so the designer will probably have a lot of freedom while creating the final look of the model. Areas that should be unique are front fascia, wheels, rear fascia, taillights and others.
2020 Hyundai Grandmaster Interior
The interior of the new 2020 Hyundai Grandmaster is still a mystery. At the moment, we know that the new model will definitely feature three rows of seats, with a capacity up to 8, depending on the version. Considering the platform that is shared with G90 Genesis, there is no doubt that the new crossover will be very spacious. Also, expect a little bit more luxurious approach compared to smaller vehicles from the lineup of this Korean manufacturer. Most likely, this model will walk on a fine line between mainstream and premium segment, which the quality closer to luxury crossover, but the price range that is common among mainstream full-size crossovers. Besides quality materials, expect to see a long list of standard features, which will also include a bunch of new gadgetry and other tech features.
2020 Hyundai Grandmaster Engines
In terms of powertrain, we probably won’t see bigger surprises. The 2020 Hyundai Grandmaster will come with the company’s familiar units. Most likely, it will mimic the G90. That would mean a 3.3-liter V6 as a base engine. This unit is very efficient and delivers around 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. A large V8 should be in the offer as well. This one has a displacement of 5.0 liters and features max output of 420 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Both engines use the same 8-speed automatic transmission. Most likely, RWD will be standard, while an AWD layout will be optional.
2020 Hyundai Grandmaster Competition
As we’ve already mentioned, the 2020 Hyundai Grandmaster will actually be a crossover. Considering that there aren’t many full-size SUVs with a unibody platform, we could put all full-size vehicles in the same class. Considering that this model will stand somewhere between luxury and mainstream segment, it will compete with various kinds of models. There is a luxurious Mercedes-Benz GLS Class, but also classic SUVs like Infiniti QX80, Ford Expedition, Chevy Suburban, Toyota Sequoia etc.
2020 Hyundai Grandmaster Release Date and Price
The new full-size SUV has been presented in a form of concept recently, but we can’t say anything more precise about the production model and its arrival date. According to some reports, it could come pretty soon, already in about a year. When it comes to the price, we will rely on our own, rough estimations. The base 2020 Hyundai Grandmaster will probably go somewhere between 50.000 and 55.000 dollars.
