The 2020 Hyundai Palisade is an all-new model by the Korean carmaker. The success in the crossover/SUV class made this carmaker develop new vehicles. One of them is arriving next season and takes the position in the full-size SUV category. Palisade is not having an easy task. The competition in this segment is not big, but it is very tough. Likes of Ford Expedition or Toyota Sequoia already built their names and gathered a wide base of fans. However, Hyundai is ready for the challenge. Palisade will also have its premium rebadged sibling, which is going to appear as Genesis GV80.
The arrival of the 2020 Hyundai Palisade is very interesting for many reasons. For example, Honda is yet to launch its full-size SUV. However, news from the Japanese company is informing this is not happening so soon. So, the Palisade model shows the intention of Hyundai to become a big player. Yes, its Tucson and Santa Fe are achieving good sales, but the Korean company is still young on the US market. By expanding the lineup, more people will hear about it. And Hyundai is going hard – making an appearance on the full-size SUV market and announcing the pickup truck.
Under the Bonnet
The drivetrain of the 2020 Hyundai Palisade will be a 3.8-liter V6 engine. Most experts expected to see the V8, but this is the largest drivetrain Hyundai could install. However, it is capable to produce 292 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. We still don’t know its towing capacity, but be sure the full-size SUV will haul over 7,000 pounds. An eight-speed automatic transmission is sending power to front wheels. This is a bit strange since most of its rivals are using rear wheels for 2WD configuration. An all-wheel drive remains optional. The setup allows better response and the driver can choose one of four available modes (Normal, Sport, Smart, Snow). Locking differential is standard for AWD models.
2020 Hyundai Palisade Styling
The new SUV will borrow some visual solutions from its siblings. The new 2020 Hyundai Palisade is larger than Santa Fe’s extended edition XL. It is 196 inches long, with a 114-inch wheelbase. Width is 78 in, 3.6 in more than Santa Fe XL, and Palisade is 2.5 inches taller. Behind the third row, this model will offer 18 cubic feet of storage space. The volume raises up to 46 cubic feet with rear seats folded. The new Palisade is shorter than most of its rivals. However, it still has room for three rows of seats.
This SUV will look like the enlarged and beefed version of Santa Fe. LED headlights come with the new shape. Also, the floating style of the roof is unique among all Hyundai models. Well, we can see GMC using similar solutions on its latest crossovers and SUVs.
The 2020 Hyundai Palisade will be a flagship model. That means all the latest technologies will be used for this SUV. From what we saw, the vehicle is unique inside the cockpit. Everything seems to be somehow closer to the premium segment. But still, the Palisade is a regular SUV without too many luxurious upgrades. If we must choose the downside, it is the headroom. Designers could make it more spacious. However, high seating position improves safety and transparency. Another surprise is analog gauges. The control panel is not fully digital. Well, we used to get this from Hyundai, but we didn’t see it coming for this model.
Well, the company will make it up with a huge 10-inch screen at the center of the dashboard. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. A head-up display is a nice upgrade available through an optional purchase. Inside the cabin, there is room for seven passengers. There are as many USB ports, while a total of 16 cup holders are positioned in various spots.
2020 Hyundai Palisade Release Date
The company debuted with its new SUV. However, the 2020 Hyundai Palisade is not going to be available for a while. In the next couple of months, we will find out all the details regarding the new arrival. The sales are set to start in the upcoming summer.
Well, there are more interesting things about the new model. Hyundai announced a hybrid version, but it is not mentioned during the premiere of the Palisade. We still don’t know if the carmaker gave up from this idea. Also, there are few powerful diesel engines outside the US, which could go across the sea.
The new 2020 Hyundai Palisade will cost less than its competitors. Although marketed as a three-row model, it could better fit into the mid-size segment. Whatsoever, the price of the upcoming SUV is not unveiled yet. Experts believe we could see it around $35,000. We will also monitor the rumors about the Kia Telluride since these two models will share a lot of things. Price is one of them. So, whenever we get the cost of each of these two, we will know what to expect from the other one.
