The 2020 Jeep Wrangler will represent the third production year of the recently-arrived new generation of this icon. Though with a familiar look, the new-generation model came with improvements in all aspects. The fourth generation sticks to the model’s recognizable styling philosophy and comes with minor tweaks only. On the other side, there is a significant mechanical upgrade, in terms of a new platform, which utilizes some lightweight materials. The comfort has been raised on the higher level as well. 2020 Jeep Wrangler redesign

In terms of base design characteristics, we won’t see bigger changes in the 2020 Jeep Wrangler. It will continue with the same specs, riding on a new platform. The new architecture brings a lot of improvements, especially in terms of comfort and interior space. On the other side, styling seems very familiar. Basically, the whole contour of the new model has remained unchanged, while dimension changes are minimal. There is a well-known Wrangler’s face, which sticks to the Jeep’s proven design solutions, which date from WWII. For the 2020 Jeep Wrangler, we definitely won’t see changes in styling. However, it is quite possible to see a few minor novelties, such as new color options and wheels design.

The interior design will also come without bigger changes. We are about to see the same cabin layout, which offers more space and comforts compared to the previous model. In terms of styling, the new cabin takes and inspiration from the old YJ Wrangler, which was in production in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Some of the most notable details are a new retro-designed three-spoke steering wheel, power windows control mounted at the center console, from woofers at lower corners of the dashboard etc. Higher trims also offer a color instrument cluster display.

Still, the most impressive thing about the new interior is the level of comfort and refinements. In this aspect, the company made a significant improvement. All materials feature far better quality, while seats are far more comfortable. Also, there is much more legroom in the second row, while the whole cabin if full of tech features.

2020 Jeep Wrangler hybrid

This is the aspect of the 2020 Jeep Wrangler where we expect to see the biggest novelties. According to the latest reports, we are finally about to see a plug-in hybrid version of the legendary SUV. So far, we don’t know the exact details, though it seems pretty certain that the new system will be based on a familiar 2.0-liter gasoline engine. It will come with a help of one or more electric motors, which will provide additional power and, more importantly, additional torque. If we can trust latest reports, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler hybrid will feature battery with a quite big capacity, which will provide solid autonomy as well. The battery will be placed between frame rails, so it remains pretty unclear how the AWD system of this version will look like.

2020 Jeep Wrangler to Get a New Diesel Engine for the European Market?

Another big novelty for the 2020 Jeep Wrangler should be a new diesel engine. It should be a familiar 2.2-liter unit, which is good for about 197 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Just like other engines, it will come in a pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine will be offered in Europe, though it is possible to see it on some other markets as well.

Another diesel engine that will be in use is a large 3.0-liter V6. This will be the engine for the North American diesel version. It is good for about 260 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque.

Besides two diesel units, the legendary SUV also comes with a couple of gasoline units. The base model features a well-known 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar unit, which in this version delivers around 285 horses and 260 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is a new 2.0-liter turbo inline-four, which comes with a twin-scroll turbocharger and new eTorque technology, so it is practically a mild hybrid. This unit is highly efficient and delivers around 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

2020 Jeep Wrangler trim levels

The trim level organization of 2020 Jeep Wrangler is about to remain unchanged. However, this doesn’t mean that we won’t see novelties for each version. For the current year-model, there are 2-door and 4-door body styles. Both versions come in Sport, Sport S and Rubicon trim levels, while a 4-door model also adds Sahara trim.

The base Sports trim seems pretty straightforward. It comes with standard features like steel wheels, removable metal doors, manual mirrors and locks, cloth upholstery etc. In terms of tech features, there are things like a 5-inch touchscreen, rearview camera, 8-speaker sound system, Bluetooth, USB ports etc.

The Sport S adds plenty of conveniences. Some of the highlights are alloy wheels, air conditioning, power windows, keyless entry, automatic headlights, leather-wrapped steering wheel etc.

A mid-level Sahar, which is offered in four-door version only, comes with bigger 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and foglights, automatic climate control, additional USB port, 115-Volt outlet etc. Also, count on tech upgrades, on things like 7-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration etc.

Finally, there is a Rubicon trim. This is an off-road version of the SUV, designed to be far more capable on hard terrains. There are numerous upgrades in terms of mechanics. Some of the highlights are special off-road tires, a heavy-duty Dana M210 front axle and an M220 rear axle, 4.0-to-1 low-range gearing, electronic front and rear locking differentials, an electronically disconnecting front roll bar, rock rails etc.

Also, consider that there are numerous standalone options, such as remote start, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, premium audio system and much more.

2020 Jeep Wrangler release date

We expect to see 2020 Jeep Wrangler sometime in the second half of next year. It is still early to talk about the price since the new model is about to come with a lot of powertrain changes.
