If we can trust the latest reports, the 2020 Land Rover Discovery could come with several interesting changes. The famous SUV has been around for a full three decades. So far, we have seen five generations of it. The current one was launched two years ago, but it looks like the third production year will already bring some changes. According to a couple of reliable sources, we could see a minor update, which would bring subtle visual changes. Additionally, we could see more standard features and similar kinds of changes.

On the other side, the overall design will definitely remain the same, which means a familiar layout, based on the company’s JLR D7 platform. Despite the potential update, the 2020 Land Rover Discovery probably won’t come earlier than usual. Count on its arrival sometime late in the year. Also, the price should remain pretty much the same.

2020 Land Rover Discovery Redesign

As we already mentioned, the overall layout will remain the same in any case. The 2020 Land Rover Discovery will continue with the same mechanics and overall design, which is based on the company’s familiar JLR 7 platform. This architecture is quite versatile, as it is used for various models from Land Rover and Jaguar, including Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. Therefore, it’s not strange that this SUV delivers pretty amazing off-road performances. It’s not just about good construction, but the Discovery also comes with several advanced off-road assistance features. Even the most basic versions are equipped with things like Terrain Response traction control system and front and rear tow hooks. Higher trims also offer more advanced systems like twin-speed transfer case, an air suspension, and the upgraded Terrain Response 2 traction control system.

2020 Land Rover Discovery Styling

This is the aspect where we could see a couple of changes of the next year. The current model came two years ago and it features quite classical design, inspired by full-size Range Rover. Still, today’s market requires a few flashy details, so we could see some of them in the 2020 Land Rover Discovery. This primarily refers to the front end, which could come with novelties in areas like front grille, bumper, headlights etc. Still, don’t expect anything significant. Changes will be subtle, with a lot of elegance. Also, we could see changes in terms of new color options in the offer, new wheels designs, and similar things.

2020 Land Rover Discovery Interior

When it comes to the interior design, we probably won’t see more important changes and the reason is pretty obvious. The current model already comes with a pretty amazing cabin design, which is characterized by lots of hi-end materials. The dashboard looks very elegant and definitely makes Discovery one of the most elegant models in the class when it comes to interior design.

The cabin is also quite functional and practical. Typically for a mid-size SUV, it can accommodate up to seven people. Still, base trims come with two rows of seating only. First and second rows are very generous in terms of space and offer plenty of comforts. It is good to mention that even most basic versions feature leather upholstery and power-adjustable front seats. Of course, you can get upgraded upholstery in higher trims, as well as things like heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, power-adjustable steering wheel etc.

When it comes to cargo capacity, the overall volume goes around 83 cubic feet, which are above-average numbers for the class. It is also good to mention that a hands-free power tailgate is standard in all models.

Speaking of the standard features, all models are equipped with tech goodies like a 10-inch touchscreen, navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot etc. One of the rare complaints in terms of tech features goes to a lack of smartphone integration features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2020 Land Rover Discovery Engines

North American drivers have a choice between a diesel and gasoline engines. Base models feature a 3.0-liter V6, which is good for about 340 horsepower. It delivers pretty amazing performances and moves this SUV pretty quickly. However, it also features some of the lowest mpg ratings in the class.

Fortunately, there is a diesel option, if you care about fuel economy. A 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel is good for about 254 horsepower. It isn’t as quick as gasoline versions, but it is far more efficient and offers much more torque, which is crucial for towing and other utility tasks.

Both engines come in a pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.
