2020 Lexus GX 460 Redesign, Specs, Interior

Most likely, the Japanese manufacturer won’t be updating its SUV lineup so soon, which indicates that the 2020 Lexus GX 460 should continue without bigger changes, at least when it comes to base design characteristics.

The current-generation model is present for almost a decade and it already received some significant updates. We have seen few major refreshes, with significant styling improvements and addition of tech features. So, 2020 GX 460 probably won’t include some significant novelties in its arrival. It will most likely come with a familiar styling and design characteristics.

On the other side, we could see some addition of standard equipment, which should make it more competitive on the market. When it comes to the powertrain, things will definitely remain the same. Expect to see new model by the end of next year.

In terms of base design characteristics, this luxury SUV hasn’t changed a lot during its long production cycle. It still rides on the same platform as Land Cruiser Prado and offers rugged body-on-frame construction. Compared to other models in the class, which are predominantly crossovers, this one offers far superior off-road capabilities. On the other side, it seems a little bit hefty on the road and that’s the thing you should consider when buying this one. In terms of styling, this SUV hasn’t changed in last five years.

The last update was in 2013, when it received a spindle grille and other elements of the brand’s new design language. The 2020 Lexus GX 460 will probably continue in the same way, featuring pretty boxy shape, which makes it clear that off-road capability is its strongest point and that there is no place for fooling around.

Although primarily an off-road vehicle, this SUV offers quite refined interior design. Of course, it can’t compete with modern luxury crossovers in terms of style and comfort, but it still has plenty to offer. The first thing you’ll notice is a bunch of quality materials. Higher trims even include things like leather and mahogany. Still, it is hard not to notice that this SUV is aging slowly.

The 2020 Lexus GX 460 should continue in the same way, though we could see some new standard features in the offer. The current model comes in base and Luxury trim levels. The next year could bring new standard equipment. Most likely, this will be a complete suite of safety features. Some of the highlights would be adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and automatic braking, front- and side-view cameras, a driver inattention monitoring system, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, crawl control etc.

2020 Lexus GX 460 engine

The 2020 Lexus GX 460 will certainly continue without changes under the hood. There is a familiar 4.6-liter V8 engine, which is good for about 300 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. Such amount of power seems perfect for off-road drive. Also, count on amazing towing capacity, which goes around 7.500 pounds.

On the other side, fuel economy isn’t spectacular. It goes around 15 mpg in city and 18 mpg on a highway. When it comes o transmission, there is a familiar 6-speed automatic. In China, this model comes with a familiar V6 engine in the offer as well. It is a well-known 4.0-liter unit which delivers around 270 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.
