Tests are ongoing. Fans are happy to hear the new 2020 Mahindra Scorpio is coming. However, the company is not yet making it official, although the Indian carmaker is stripping the camo off the new SUV. This is not the first time Scorpio is being spotted, and soon we could hear the official statement about the next-gen of the vehicle. The first series production started in 2002, in 2008 the second version arrived, and again, six years after, the new generation replaced the old one. Next is the sixth year and we are sure the company is preparing the big things for its star SUV.
Spy photos are not unveiling everything. But it is still enough to spot a few major changes. First, the SUV is going to be larger than before. New look, with a sloped roofline and revisited front grille, will definitely draw the attention of the younger buyers. On the other hand, we will definitely see some updates under the hood. The hybrid engine is even possible, although it seems to be a far-fetched story for the Indian company. But, the cooperation with Renault and Nissan will definitely bring something radical.
2020 Mahindra Scorpio Redesign
The new generation means a lot of changes. As we saw it before, every sixth season brings a new look for the Scorpio. It is one of the longest-serving models with Mahindra’s badge. The new model is being on the streets for a while. We can see it from different angles, but the latest models are looking like production-ready vehicles. Well, this is still not a final version, but its exterior shape looks more modern than the previous SUV. The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio is also going to add some slope to the rear end of the roof, so that could shred some headroom and overall volume in the cabin. On the other hand, the vehicle is going to be more attractive for all generations of buyers.
What’s Good and What Needs to Improve
The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio can’t be considered as one of the best SUVs out there. Still, for the price you pay, you are getting more than enough. Mahindra is not the world’s famous brand. The company appears in limited markets. However, the next Scorpio will make a breakthrough to more countries and people. It will be a refreshing offer and the cost of this crossover SUV will definitely be one of the reasons why you should buy it.
The expansion to other markets will require a lot of improvements. The Indian company is not using too expensive materials. In a matter of fact, the quality of the interior is very poor. If Mahindra wants to make an impact and be competitive with new rivals, designers will have to build a better cockpit. On the other way, this will increase the cost of the vehicle. We will see what will the final version of the Scorpio look like. According to spy photos, much more attractive than before. With a superb fuel economy and few engine options, the SUV will be a true refresh for the market.
2020 Mahindra Scorpio Is Getting a New Engines
The power room will take some changes for the upcoming season. Mahindra is using Citroen and Peugeot engines, but the company is ready for the radical move. A new unit is going to replace the couple of diesel mills that were available before. So, a 2.2 and 2.5-l displacements are going to be discontinued with the third generation of the SUV. Instead of these, engineers are adding a 2.0-liter diesel with 160 hp. A five-speed manual transmission is the standard power router, while you can always pick an automatic gearbox with six paces.
Another new engine will be 2.0-liter petrol. However, this one is still in development and it will definitely arrive later. Some say the gasoline drivetrain is coming next summer. On the other hand, we still don’t know if this is going to be the only engine that uses this type of fuel or the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will carry over some of the existing units. The latest edition was a 2.2 mHawk petrol drivetrain with 150 hp. The same transmission cases will be offered with a gasoline version.
2020 Mahindra Scorpio Getaway Truck
If you get on the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio Getaway, don’t be fooled. That is the pickup truck based on the SUV. The same changes will happen for this vehicle, although we still didn’t see it on the streets. The truck is pretty popular in its homeland, and surprisingly Australia. The fresh look and new engines are going to make it more appealing, so the company is putting the extra effort to make its pickup more capable of towing. A diesel engine is a right thing for this, but towing capacity numbers are still unknown. The 2020 Scorpio Getaway will have to offer some extra off-road skills. With these upgrades, the truck will be a true working mule that will challenge Isuzu V-Cross and Tata Xenon.
