The 2020 Mazda CX-30 is an all-new crossover on the market. The Japanese carmaker slots it between CX-3 and CX-5. Well, it is basically CX-4, but this nameplate already exists in Mazda’s portfolio. The company sells another vehicle in China with this name. So, if you are expecting anything strange from the CX-30, you can be disappointed. The crossover is bringing all the standard equipment and architecture.
Well, there are some rumors saying the new model could get a hybrid engine. Whatsoever, it is not something that we didn’t see before. The new CX-3 is now available with such drivetrain. Besides the electric unit, the CX-30 is going to use gasoline and diesel drivetrains. The latest one won’t be available in the US.
Pros and Cons
The first impressions about the new crossover are here. The 2020 Mazda CX-30 is coming mostly unchanged, so all pros and cons are the same. The crossover is based on Mazda 3 and it carries over superb driving mechanics. However, in Europe, drivetrains are not so powerful.
The exterior is stylish and aesthetic. Inside the cabin, buyers can find elegant details and a lot of safety features. The interior is very practical. However, the new CX-30 is the best fit for four, although its seating capacity is for five persons. Infotainment features are excellent, although Mazda could use more modernized housing.
Specs
Two petrol engines are in the offer if you choose to buy the 2020 Mazda CX-30. Both of them are already seen on its siblings. From the smaller, CX-3, the new crossover borrows a 2.0-liter inline-four engine. It can produce 150 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. The advantage of this small displacement is an excellent fuel economy. The crossover will return over 30 mpg, either with FWD or AWD.
The more powerful versions are getting power from a 2.5-liter four-pot mill. This one is the source of power for the CX-5 as well. It adds 40 hp and 40 pound-feet to the base setup. Again, all-wheel drive is optional, while the drivetrain sends power to front wheels by default. A six-speed automatic transmission is a power router and the maximum towing capacity for the CX-30 is 2,000 pounds.
Diesel
The newest engine in Mazda’s lineup is a 2.2-liter diesel. The drivetrain is coming to the US as the part of CX-5 drivetrain squad. Since the CX-30 is not going to be available in North America, we believe this could be the most popular unit worldwide.
The engine is using a twin-turbo system to maximize the outputs. According to announcements, the powertrain will produce 170 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. This boost of twist power seems to be perfect for some performance-oriented version of the 2020 Mazda CX-30. Well, the new engine is going to be fuel-friendly as the rest of the lineup, and it is improving towing capacity. We still don’t have precise info about either segment.
2020 Mazda CX-30 Styling, Features, Options
The crossover is heavily based on the new Mazda 3 car. But, it upscales the offer by being the crossover/SUV at first place. Still, there are some features that we can’t complain about.
As we said, the CX-4 would be the most suitable name for the new model. It fits right between CX-3 and CX-5. Five inches longer than the first one, six inches shorter than the second model, the CX-30 offers something new to Mazda’s fans. Not too big, not too small, but the crossover is beautiful and eye-catching. Of course, add the unique red paint job, and your ride is beating the most competition.
The 2020 Mazda CX-30 comes with more room inside than the CX-3. Designers are not increasing the cargo space. The new model offers 13 cubic feet behind the rear seats. The capacity is for five, but all three persons at the back will ask for more room. On the other hand, the front row is a difference-maker. Elegant and simple, the interior layout provides a lot of comfort, transparent view, and plenty of infotainment features. At the premiere, chiefs praised the noise reduction and sound isolation systems. So, for a longer ride, the CX-30 seems to be as good as some larger SUVs.
2020 Mazda CX-30 Not Coming To the US
Fans in the United States are not going to see the 2020 Mazda CX-30 right at the start of production. Although the company is not confirming, some rumors claim the crossover is not coming before 2021. Some predictions are announcing a delay for 2022.
Whatsoever, the 2020 YM is not coming to the US, but the new vehicle is going to be available in the rest of the world. Main markets are the UK, Europe, and Australia. The price is not determined yet. But, it is easy to predict. CX-3 costs $21,500, and the CX-5 is starting at $25,500. So, the position between these two means the MSRP will start somewhere in this region. CX-30 could come with a $24,000 price tag.
