After the big redesign in 2006 Pajero became Montero SUV in the US. Ever since the company didn’t bring any major update for the full-size model. To keep up with competition, the 2020 Mitsubishi Montero will have to show the fresh face, latest technology, and new engines. This should be enough to revive the interest in the new Montero. 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Specs
The main source of power is coming from a 3.8-liter V6 engine. It still lacks some power to compete with top models in the full-size segment. This drivetrain is capable to produce 280 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed transmission is standard in most markets. Automatic or manual, it is up to buyers. At some regions, the 2020 Mitsubishi Montero will come with a four-speed auto gearbox.
Outside the US, there are more options for the new Montero. The most interesting is a 3.0 unit, currently available only in China. With it, the 2020 Montero will get 230 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. Between these two petrol engines is a 3.5-liter mill, while a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is the smallest one in the lineup. It can produce 160 hp and 160 lb-ft, but this is just not enough for a full-size SUV market in the US.
Diesel engines are also available for the 2020 Mitsubishi Montero and the upcoming Pajero. Well, these drivetrains are not coming to North America. Two displacements are coming to other markets – a 2.8 and 3.2. The first one will be able to burst 140 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of twist. The other one is good for 200 hp and 325 lb-ft.
Plug-In Hybrid
Mitsubishi Outlander is available with a PHEV system in the US. It was a surprise when this SUV appeared for the first time. The 2020 Mitsubishi Montero could follow its steps to bring more buyers. The new generation of the 2020 Mitsubishi Montero is being tested. So, its release date is close. Well, we still don’t know the company’s schedule.
