2020 Nissan Patrol Spy, Royale, Y62

First renders of the upcoming 2020 Nissan Patrol are showing some serious upgrades. The SUV could head into a new generation after ten years. Well, the 4×4 vehicle will draw a lot of attention, since it has fans in all corners of the globe. Even in the US where it is not available. We found out that the company is considering launching it in the largest market in the world, but it is not likely to happen yet. The US lineup already offers Armada as the largest unit. The Patrol would improve the squad, but the full-size segment is not as attractive as compact or the mid-size one.

Whatsoever, the 2020 Nissan Patrol will still record excellent sales across the world. This is going to be the first major change after 2014 and it will be worth of waiting. The current generation arrived in 2014 and the only facelift it suffered four years later. Now, the Nissan family of big rigs is ready for the next chapter. Patrol’s US sibling, Armada, went through a redesign in 2017, and now we expect another revisit. This time, all full-size SUVs will underpin the new Monograph concept. Infiniti QX80 is getting the most of it, but the non-premium vehicles are also getting pieces of the new architecture.

2020 Nissan Patrol Specs

The new 2020 Nissan Patrol will continue to use existing engines. Currently, these are a 4.0-liter V6 and 5.6-liter V8 units. The first one is also available for the Frontier truck in the US and a few other models. A huge V6 displacement is capable to deliver 275 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. Nissan is using continuously variable transmission and the all-wheel drive exclusively for all versions of Patrol SUV.

If you want more of everything, then you should go after the V8 engine. A 5.6-liter displacement is good for 390 hp and 400 lb-ft of twist. Converted to towing capacity, that is nearly 8,000 pounds. Of course, the fuel economy is taking the damage, but the Patrol will still manage to return respectable mileage for the V8 model. This engine also uses a CVT and all-wheel drive.

Patrol Nismo

The SUV had a special treatment in the past. Nissan installed the latest Nismo upgrades to make the ride more impressive. The tuning boosted the power output to 430 hp from the same V8 engine. The similar configuration we could see for the 2020 Nissan Patrol Nismo. This time, the SUV could even get the diesel engine. We believe a 5.0-liter V8 unit, currently offered with Titan XD truck, can fit the performance-oriented vehicle. In this case, Patrol Nismo would count on 330 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. There will be also other upgrades as well. Bilstein shocks and unique wheels are definitely things that will make the performance better. Of course, special graphics and paintojobs, as well as exterior and interior parts complete this upgrade.

Spy Photos and 2020 Nissan Patrol Redesign

Big changes are on the way for the 2020 Nissan Patrol according to what we saw on spy photos. The big rig is already nine years old. Its styling still meets modern needs, but the aging design can’t be used for quite long. It seems like the company knows this as well, and the spy photos are unveiling the new Patrol with heavy camo all over the body. That means the redesigned SUV is being tested and it is just a matter of time when it is going to appear.

The upcoming 2020 Patrol will keep its bold and aggressive look. The 4×4 vehicle is durable and suitable for off-road adventures. However, the base model is the cheapest variant and it uses a V6 engine and not too much equipment. Of course, every new trim level improves the offer and increases the cost. Leather seats, navigation, and a 360-degree camera are notable optional features. Nissan is going to develop the new self-driving system, by upgrading the existing ProPilot. For the current edition of the Patrol, we have lane departure warning and a blind-spot monitor. The new edition will add some hands-free functions.

Competition, Price

The new 2020 Nissan Patrol is arriving at multiple markets. In the US buyers can find Nissan Armada taking the full-size segment spot. Both of them are going through a redesign and they will appear fresh in 2020. Changes are going to affect the starting prices for sure. We cannot speak precisely, especially with the SUV appearing in so many markets. It is the most popular in the Middle East, and the offer it the most luxurious in this region.

Toyota Land Cruiser is the biggest rival to the Nissan Patrol. The non-US version is not as luxurious as we used to see. Still, it belongs to the premium segment and definitely offers more than Nissan. Other alternatives in Asian and European markets are Mitsubishi Pajero and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
