The carmaker will use one of the existing engines and combine it with an electric battery. It will be either a 1.6-l or 2.0-liter unit. The base units can produce 110-150 horsepower. The base 2020 Nissan Qashqai will use a 1.2-liter unit. A turbo-four powertrain is the weakest one in the lineup. It can produce only 115 hp and 165 Nm (120 lb-ft). The most powerful engine in the class is a 2.0-liter. It delivers 150 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. This is the same engine Nissan is using for the Rogue Sport subcompact SUV in the US. A six-speed automatic CVT comes with a manual mode.
Diesel Engines
With arrival of the hybrid drivetrain, some experts said that Nissan is about to kill diesel engines. Well, these drivetrains are big polluters, so it is just a matter of time when will they become a part of history. However, it is not going to happen so soon. The 2020 Nissan Qashqai will have its two reliable units as its predecessor. The crossover borrows a 1.5-l dCi unit from Nissan’s partner, Renault. This is a famous drivetrain by the French company. For the Qashqai it will produce 110 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard.
There will be few possible configurations for the last engine. A 1.6-liter diesel unit delivers 130 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque. However, different tuning will make 2020 Nissan Qashqai with this unit spront 0-60 in less than 10 seconds. Xtronic transmission option, and 4×4 drive are possible upgrades.
