2020 Nissan X-Trail Review, UK

X-Trail used to be a very popular crossover SUV in the USA. Now, it appears overseas, while in North America, Nissan is producing it as Rogue. Nevertheless, changes on the upcoming model will follow the redesign lines of the latest US counterpart. The 2020 Nissan X-Trail will be a modern, sleek, and reliable crossover. Very popular in Australia and Europe, this is one of the best-selling vehicles outside the United States.

The new 2020 Nissan X-Trail will use both diesel and petrol engines. The compact crossover SUV is getting a new hybrid engine for the next season. Outside, the company is introducing small cosmetic updates with new shapes and parts. Inside the cabin, we will see even more. The infotainment system is among the best in the class. When Will 2020 Nissan X-Trail Be Available?

The new 2020 Nissan X-Trail will be released early next year. The company is going to bring it to Australia and Europe. The big redesign is not going to affect the price, which stays put in most regions. However, pay attention to the new offer of packages and trim level. There, changes are possible. The base offer starts around 22,000 pounds in the UK, 25,000 euros, or $30,000 in Australia. Top of the line models will cost up to $50,000.

Will X-Trail Come Back to the US?

For now, Nissan has no intentions to bring back X-Trail. Well, all the spots in the crossover and SUV lineup are full. Also, the 2020 Nissan X-Trail is a compact crossover and that is Nissan Rogue in the US. What’s more, engines the crossover is using can’t meet regulations in North America. So, the X-Trail is not coming back in 2020. However, in the future, with the expansion of the crossover and SUV class, we could see this model as some of the subsegments. But, we will talk about it when the 2021 season gets closer.

2020 Nissan X-Trail Specs

The 2020 Nissan X-Trail will come with many engines available for its buyers. Well, depending on the market, not all units are going to be in the offer. There are four different petrol unit and two types of diesel. The largest mills are the most favorite. In the gasoline segment, that is a 2.5-liter drivetrain. That is the engine X-Trail’s cousin in the US, Nissan Rogue is using. A four-cylinder drivetrain is capable to produce 170 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque.

A 1.6-liter and 1.3-l are coming for European customers only. Both units are straight-four all-aluminum drivetrains. The larger one is capable to produce 170 hp, while the other one puts out 10 ponies fewer than its sibling. The fuel economy of these two is the main advantage why you should pick it over a 2.5-liter mill.

Two diesel units are offing alternatives. The smaller displacement is a 1.6-liter with 130 horsepower. Nissan borrowed this one from Renault. The diesel engine also adds 240 lb-ft of torque. The other unit is a 2.0-liter. Compared to a 1.6-liter engine, this one adds 40 hp and 50 lb-ft of torque. Transmission depends on the engine and market. However, the 2020 Nissan X-Trail will use 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. Automatic DCT has seven paces.

Hybrid

Before you say we forgot one petrol unit, hold on for a second. The last, but not the least important gasoline engine is paired with an electric motor. This combination is good for 145 hp. Well, the US edition of the same engine paired with electric batteries produces 176 hp for the Nissan Rogue Hybrid. The main advantage of this configuration is a better fuel economy than for the conventional setup. We still don’t have numbers for the 2020 Nissan X-Trail Hybrid. But, the company promised a significant upgrade. The current hybrid system is already very economical. Could X-Trail become a plug-in model? If this happens, it will be possible to drive it by using electric power only.

2020 Nissan X-Trail Changes, Facelift

Although it is already six years old, the current generation of the X-Trail will have one more run. At least. Well, the company will redesign the new model to attract younger buyers. Surely, the upcoming 2020 Nissan X-Trail will borrow some styling solutions from its US counterpart. Although it is a compact model, it can take seven passengers. A lot of intelligent options are available in all markets. The touchscreen display is standard. Upper trims will offer an 8-inch display. Top models come with navigation and 20-inch wheels, while 17-inchers are standard.  Special versions add black accents around the crossover. From grille to wheels and exhaust tips, everything will be unique.
