The 2020 Opel Grandland X is now available with a new 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. That was the major change for its predecessor. The new SUV will also use the same powertrain. The unit comes from the new parent company, a PSA group. It has direct fuel injection and develops 178 horsepower at 5,500 rpm, as well as 250 Nm of torque.
Opel expands its lineup of SUV models. The latest in the series is the Grandland X. Comparing the quality of materials, equipment, and general sophistication is placed at the top of the class. It is not a secret that Grandland X is sharing the mechanical platform with the new Peugeot 3008. These two also offer the same engines. However, for complete refinement, Opel engineers have put a lot of work into the new 2020 Opel Grandland X.
2020 Opel Grandland X Redesign
Proportions of the 2020 Opel Grandland X are something that designers can get to perfect. The aesthetics of the entire Opel recognizable styling are still there. Again, the new SUV is unique enough and original. The same situation is in the interior. The whole design is coming from a German company. There, we include the design of seats with the famous AGR certificate in terms of quality ergonomics. This may be the best quality of the Opel C segment of all time, including the choice of materials.
In the automotive industry, it is an unofficial rule, that certain materials must be on each part of the interior. It depends on the class where the car belongs. On the 2020 Opel Grandland X we see a serious upgrade. So, the SUV used the same strategy as the new Insignia sedan. This means the soft surfaces are not only on the complete control panel and in the door, but also on the central console, which rarely occurs in this class. Generally, hard plastic pieces are rare in these kinds of vehicles.
Grandland X vs Peugeot 3008
The Grandland X makes a better impression than its close sibling Peugeot 3008. The quality of finishes and details are at a surprisingly high level. Everything is well integrated and we can’t find too many things to complain. Well, the 2020 Opel Grandland X is not offering some elegant design details like the French model. But, the feeling of conservative abilities and even luxury is quite present in Opel’s SUV. In a word, the car is everything we expect from a German vehicle.
2020 Opel Grandland X Specs
To begin with, two engines will be available for the 2020 Opel Grandland X. We know them both from the PSA models. The first is 1.6-liter diesel that produces 120 horsepower. The second one is a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol drivetrain. It delivers 130 horsepower. Considering that more and more customers opt for gasoline, due to cheaper maintenance and higher tolerance to the bad fuel, experts believe that the 1.2 turbo engine will sell better.
The new unit is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol unit. It produces 178 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Opel’s representatives announced the new PureTech engine will make Grandland X accelerate 0-100 k/ h in just 8 seconds/ Top speed of this SUV is 222 km/h (138 mph). The new engine is mated to a standard eight-speed automatic transmission.
When it comes to efficiency and economy, we could hear that thanks to the new engine, the 2020 Opel Grandland X emits fewer gases. The particle filter is another reason why the SUV doesn’t pollute the air as before. An award is Euro 6d-TEMP certificate. Also, thanks to the new start/stop system, the vehicle consumes just 5.7 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers average. On highways, the fuel economy will be even better.
There is plenty of space in the trunk to keep items for a long trip. We must mention the new wireless charger for mobile phones, even beneath the armrest. As with other models, a heated windshield and defrosting heater are available. Inside, the steering wheel also gets heating. Center console is covered with soft plastic. The comfort of the seat can be boosted thanks to the electric adjustment of the height of the lumbar support. There are not only heaters (as well as rear seats), but also ventilation available, but only with optional packages. The Ultimate model adds 19-inch alloy wheels, premium leather seats, Denon audio, and numerous driver assistance systems.
