2020 Peugeot 5008 Review, Allure, Hybrid, Specs

The 2020 Peugeot 5008 is the largest SUV by the French carmaker for now. The latest version dates back from 2017 when the company turned the MPV into SUV. Three rows of seats and a lot of upgrades are on the way for the 2020 season and the new model will be even more stunning. The cooperation between the French carmaker and other members of PSA Group (Ford, JLR, Volvo) is already visible on its products. Well, Peugeot focuses on the European market and for now, there are no intentions of increasing to other continents.

The first 5008 model arrived ten years ago, and it was a multi-purpose vehicle. However, with the growth of the SUV and crossover classes, they needed a large model to be competitive on the market. And with the downfall of the MPV market, they turned 5008 into an SUV. In the future, we can expect a hybrid model, since the vehicle is offering conventional petrol and diesel units. BlueHDI is the most popular option. There are also a lot of similarities with Opel Grandland X and Citroen C5 Aircross.

Specs

The engine lineup for the 2020 Peugeot 5008 starts with a couple of petrol engines. A 1.2-liter PureTech drivetrain can produce only 130 hp, but it is the most fuel-friendly option. It comes in a pair with a six-speed manual gearbox and automatic 6-pace transmission is optional. If you want more power, then a 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit is a better choice for sure. It adds 35 ponies and it cuts a manual transmission. Only automatic one is available as a power router to the bigger gasoline engine.

Diesel Engines and Configurations

A couple of Blue HDI diesel engines are coming with two different setups for each, which makes a total of four options for the 2020 Peugeot 5008. A lighter version is a 1.6-liter motor with 100 or 120 horsepower. Again, the diesel unit will use a different transmission – a five-speed manual. Still, this one is available only for a model with 100 hp. The other one uses the same options as the petrol siblings.

The top of the class offer is going to offer 180 horsepower from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder HDI engine. Still, it is also available in a version with 150 horses, and the Peugeot also installs an eight-speed automatic gearbox as an optional case. All models are coming with the front-wheel drive. This is the major downside of the 2020 Peugeot 5008. However, Advanced Grip Control is a system that allows better off-road performance. There are five different drive modes you can select: Normal, Snow, Mud, Sand, and ESP Off. Also, there are a lot of aid features, such as front collision warning, pedestrian detection, and we already saw advantages of the i-Cockpit.

2020 Peugeot 5008 Features

The 2020 Peugeot 5008 is a seven-seat SUV. You can turn it into a five-seater by folding down the rear row. It will also create more space for passengers and cargo. Still, the most impressive feature for the SUV is an i-Cockpit technology. We saw it on the 3008 crossovers for the first time, and the system with a raised dashboard found its place in other models as well. The upright position of the instrument panel will allow the driver to look at it over the steering wheel, and it improves overall safety.

The rest of the new system is also impressive. Peugeot replaced the classic panel with analog gauges with a digital 12-inch display. Also, conventional buttons are replaced with touch controls. The adaptive screen is something everyone should try. Well, we can include a steering wheel into this system, since there are a lot of control buttons on it.

Peugeot 5008 Hybrid

Six engine configurations are cool to have. But, the modern market is requiring even more. Diesel units are still popular, but it is a matter of time when emission rates will kill them. In France, green parties are already recommending a law that will electrify all vehicles in this country by 2035. This is a long shot, but a hybrid, PHEVs, and EVs are the future of the automotive industry.

The 2020 Peugeot 5008 Hybrid is not likely to happen, but we heard some rumors that the company could introduce the concept that will get into production in a few years. Still, further details are not available at this point. These could be only speculations.

2020 Peugeot 5008 Competition

The biggest rivalry in France is between Peugeot and Renault. Well, the other company has strong support from one of the leading SUV-makers, Nissan, and Renault sells its vehicles in more countries. The biggest SUV they offer is Koleos, which is shorter than in 5008 and doesn’t offer third rows of seats. Still, there are other models in the European market. Skoda Kodiaq arrived with a seven-seat configuration. There are also Toyota Rav4 or Hyundai Santa Fe with similar size and other options.
