The compact crossover segment is the most popular segment in the automotive industry. European customers are buying more and more of these vehicles. So, there is no surprise why we can’t wait to see the new 2020 Renault Kadjar. The French company cooperates with Nissan. The alliance is offering benefits to all members. The third company is Mitsubishi. Kadjar arrived in 2015 and now is time for the big redesign.
Changes on the 2020 Renault Kadjar will remind us of the new Qashqai. Well, we won’t see the French crossover with the new engine, since this model gave a 1.3-liter unit to its sibling. The redesign will include new front fascia, interior changes, more trim levels, and maybe even the PHEV model. The last detail is not so certain, but we believe that Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi alliance will bring such drivetrain to the compact segment.
2020 Renault Kadjar Drivetrain Lineup
Currently, Kadjar is using only one petrol engine. A 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder unit is capable to produce either 140 or 160 horsepower. Of course, the drivetrain with more power can offer better specs, including 0-60 mph acceleration. The more powerful engine takes 9.4 seconds, while the other one needs more than 10 sec. In 2018 Renault dropped two petrol units. Nissan Qashqai is still using a 1.2 and 1.6-liter powertrains. The smaller one is about to be replaced next season with a 1.3 unit. Still, the French carmaker must add another option for the new model and offer an extra option to its customers.
Diesel Engines
Famous 1.5-liter diesel unit was revisited in 2018. After the tuning, it can create 5 ponies more, for a total output of 115 hp. Also, the new setup raises the torque to 200 lb-ft from 192 pound-feet. Of course, this is a turbodiesel engine. Previously, Renault didn’t use this turbocharger. Now, the same four-cylinder diesel engine can produce more power.
Besides the new setup for a 1.5 engine, there is an all-new 1.8-liter unit. Again turbocharged, it can produce 150 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Well, it consumes more fuel, but the first impressions are very positive. As well as for the petrol lineup, Renault dropped 1.6-liter diesel powertrain.
Rumors Say 2020 Renault Kadjar Will Offer a PHEV Setup
The entire automotive industry is bringing more vehicles with electric support to the conventional lineup. Hybrids are taking over the supremacy. Well, this process is not final yet, but in the foreseeable future, this will become the reality. The new 1.3 engine could be the base of the new plug-in hybrid system. Advantages are obvious. First of all, the 2020 Renault Kadjar would become fuel-friendlier. The crossover is pretty economical already, but consumption cut is always welcome. Besides this, the PHEV system emits less CO2 gases. The downside is a higher price and higher cost of maintenance. From Kadjar Hybrid you can also expect a small boost for horsepower and torque ratings.
2020 Renault Kadjar Redesign
The crossover is entering the mid-cycle refresh process. The development of the new model already started. We can’t wait to see the first spy photos of the prototypes. For now, we can only predict what to expect. Well, there is Nissan Qashqai as the closest sibling, so changes on this model can unveil updates on the styling of the French crossover. The front fascia will definitely take the most modifications. New grille, headlights, and bumper are certain. Then, wheels, rear fascia, and of course, interior are going to refresh the appearance of the 2020 Renault Kadjar.
Interior Options and Space
The French carmaker is already well-known for its comfort and driver-friendly features. Well, they already launched new generations of vehicles in other segments. Clio, Captur, and few other models will introduce big changes. Now, we can expect the same for the 2020 Renault Kadjar. The crossover is pretty spacious for its size.
On the other hand, the new Kadjar will come with the same dimensions as before (4,450 mm long; 2,650 mm wheelbase; 1,840 mm width). So, there won’t be more room in the cabin. On the other hand, the new layout can create more room for either passengers or cargo. Sliding and foldable rear seats are very helpful.
2020 Renault Kadjar Release Date and Competition
The new Kadjar will arrive in the first quarter next year. We don’t know the exact release date. Well, the company will choose some of the big European auto shows for the debut. This is the major market, and the crossover will probably debut at this year’s Paris Auto show. In October we could get more details about the vehicle, as well as the first indications about the price changes.
